I had the same issue the other day, I found that the bulb hadn't gone it was a loose connection and giving the dash a good hit worked.  Not very technical but saved a lot of palava lol |

It goes to idle. But then again the rev counter is a bit temperamental, I had a similar issue with a focus but the focus actually stalled every time it did the same, The pug just sits at what seems to ... |

I've just bought a 2000 206 1.4Lx with 91000 on the clock. It starts first time and runs great. Driving it back yesterday was great with no issues.
