It seems that I had not tightened my wheelnuts up more than hand tight. I was about to remove the wheel to see if I could replicate the problem while stationary and noticed this. I tightened them up ...

Cheers for the info. Had a look and it seems to be engaged properly in the gearbox (no gap betweek driveshaft and 'box, turning when 1st engaged and front wheels off the ground.)

Ok, I have a 'V' plate 206 GTI 140.

Last week, I changed my drivers side wishbone. No issues whatsoever (took a while, but did it Smile )

sorry if I misunderstand, but can't you move the fuse as you can with the radio fuse to make it permenent live?

I got one from Parkers for about £47 quid. Removed the bolt in the centre, and the bolt in the centre of my current one, swapped over the rollers and jobs-a-goodun'.

Took about 1/2 hour including ...

Ok, so I currently have a 'V' plate 140 GTi. Runs fine, everything works but its a bit tatty and its my daily driver (I do about 500 miles a week).

Removed just the pulley and replaced it with the nex pulley. Working fine and so much easier than removing the whole tensioner unit.

I wasn't sure, as in the recent spell of bad weather, my wheels locked plenty of times, and sometimes they still do if I come to a rapid stop.

Where would I find the pump to check?

Pulley feels solid enough and cant detect by hand any 'roughness' in its rotation, so can't be sure its the bearings, but better safe than sorry I guess.

So, to change the tensioner, simply use a 1 ...
