Upon reading up, it does seem like it could easily be either of those things.

Luckily the chap im selling it too delves into stuff like that so it isn't too much to worry about.

Yeah you should always get a car checked out with the engine management light on as soon as possible to stop any further issues but this does kinda sound like an issue I had not so long ago.

I had this issue the other day and it turned out to be a fuse from under the steering wheel which had blew!

But... I have also had my coil packed replaced 3 months ago too from it not starting.
