replacing the knackered bearing, you fill it full of grease before you fit the trailing arm, I did both of my bearing's in day after watching it done on you tube, it's pretty easy to do.

just had a thought mate, have undone the anti roll bar drop link? on my heap it wouldn't let me pull the hub forward enough to get the shaft out. got to be worth a try?

soak it in WD 40 and leave it overnight to work in, you might have a better chance of getting it out.

i had this problem last time I changed mine.
have you undone the anti roll bar links?
for some reason they push the hub outwards which makes in difficult to drop the ball joints out.
