Does it cut out when your your driving it? I had a 1.4 hdi was years ago. Similar situations to yours but also when driving (not great when pulling out at roundabouts!) Nothing pinged up when plugged ... |

Check the O-ring around the top of the tank. Under the rear bench, lift off the round cover. I had similar problem when I first got my car. There may be some petrol residue around the top.
