Just joined - took me forever to find this forum on google, but glad I have.
We bought a 2003 206 LX 1400 that had been sat for about 8 months as our base for our rally car build:
Got it back to the workshop and wasted no time removing the rear half of the interior:
No pictures of the seats coming out, but the front and back ones are available if anyone needs that nasty teal green in their lives.
Then I took a while tagging all the engine wiring ready to pull it out for a rebuild:
Yesterday, I finished removing the dash, and the heater system:
And started removing the carpet and sound deadening:
Hopefully next weekend we'll have pulled the remaining bits of the interior, found a place to buy some dry ice, and will be removing the laminated sound deadening that is left over, and scraping away the seam seal and removing paint ready for seam welding.
Then it's engine out and bay prep for more seam welding, and installation of the cage time.
While doing all of this, I discovered our car is CANBUS, so we'll get the lovely task of rewiring the indicators, wipers, and other interior stuff that is currently a mess of wire, and hopefully make it solidly reliable.
And of course it has an immobiliser. Is there any way to completely disable the immobiliser with an ECU remap or something? I have visions of it deciding to all go wrong while between stages and us having to retire from an event due to electronic pixies that are non-trivial to fix.

I believe immobiliser is BSI driven... But can be wrong.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right... I found this post that seems to imply you can potentially disable it in the ECU. I guess if not, then I'll just superglue the transponder from the key onto the antenna and stash it somewhere in the dash where it can't get hurt and hope for the best!

Won't ever get separated... so if you need to replace something of the dash, you don't have to be concerned about the chip. If you break/kill the BSI, the chip could potentially be rendered useless anyways...
Taking apart can be a pain in the bum! The stuff they use can be annoying. I take more joy out of rebuilding, though testing is always squeaky-bum time.

I also found an emulator type deal that might work and let us ditch the BSI or reduce its involvement in the car to the very bare minimum. Might have to pick up a spare ECU to play around with and see if that'll work.

Heh, if I didn't have a super tight budget, I'd tear it all out and replace it with a megasquirt setup like I have on my Camaro. Alas, we're doing this as cheaply as possible - the car was £95 -, so if there's a £20 fix for a problem or a £300 fix for a problem, it'll be the £20 we go for.
Then again... if we make £300 of savings in other parts, I might be able to justify it

We stripped out the rest of the interior, and after seeing just how much spaghetti comes with a multiplex canbus system, we decided to say screw it and dump all of it in favor of a Megasquirt and custom internal wiring.
So now it looks like this:
Just need to pull the pedal box now, and the engine harness, and we'll be done on the inside and ready to prep.
We also took the opportunity to get rid of all the crap we'd torn out, and filled the back of my Tahoe until it was basically overflowing, then managed to arrive at the tip 2 minutes before closing time which was pretty lucky.
In other news, we've almost managed to get hold a 307 to steal brakes and the gearbox from, which is excellent.

There's a small patch where it has been welded up for some reason - about 1" wide by 4" long, which needs grinding back, re-doing and rust treating, but other than that it's pretty much perfect! Really please for the £95 we spent on it!

200 mile roundtrip completed. and we've snagged ourselves a rather sorry looking 307 to scavenge for its be4r and brakes. The rest we'll hopefully be able to break for parts to sell on ebay and recoup some of our costs.
We also removed the plastic formed dash from the metal cross-bar piece, and re-installed that and the steering column, so the car is moveable again and almost ready to drag into the workshop. And I can start taking measurements and putting together our custom dash design in solidworks.
