Engine/ gearbox noise issues
-> 206 Problems

#1: Engine/ gearbox noise issues Author: Puglife206 PostPosted: Fri Sep 22, 2017 4:19 pm

Hello all, thanks in advance for any help.

My 2002, 206 1.4 GLX is experiencing some noise issues. Starting from the beginning going back 4 weeks while driving my clutch pedal suddenly stuck to the floor, I pulled it up with my foot and had no more issue.

Last night my car suddenly starting making a noise I could only describe as the sound that would be made if you placed cardboard against a bicycle wheel and spun the wheel with the card hitting the spokes. It makes this noise when coasting in gear, as sooon as I press the accelerator pedal the noise disappears.

So I have taken my car to the garage they took it for a drive around the block and said the gearbox is in need of replacement, would anyone agree or disagree with the prognosis ?

Is the noise present at all whilst idling?

What happens when you hold the clutch down whilst moving, does the noise disappear?

If the noise disappears with the clutch down, it could more than likely just be the Clutch Release Bearing, which means a new clutch kit, but not necessarily an entire gearbox.
