#1: 206CC 2.0 Ongoing Project Author: Rubyoptics, Location: Warsaw - PolandPosted: Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:35 am ---- So after far too many years I finally passed my test at the grand old age of 37 (I blame my Royal Navy career, not me being a slacker...oh no!) and bought myself a 2003 2.0 206 CC at the end of November.
I paid the princely sum of roughly 1800 for it which I admit is quite a lot for one of these, but the owner had spent a lot of time and money on it, with a folder full of invoices and a full service history. It had 124k kilometers on the clock when I bought it which I have since added another 22k to.
The first thing was to have a complete fluid change, which was done 3 days after buying the car, after that it was off to the dyno to see how many of my raging 138 horses had escaped over the past 15 years!
Not too bad - although I admit it was bloody freezing on the day of the test which probably helped significantly! I will add that the engine itself is completely stock at this point, the only things done have been the fluid change and a new stock panel air filter 2 days before the test.

Living in Poland the winters can be pretty savage with a lot of snowfall, and after nearly spinning out at the tremendous speed of 5km/h going round the corner leading to my house, i simply couldn't put it off any longer and ordered a new set of Kumho WP51 Wintercraft tyres. That was pretty much it for a few months as -15 degree temperatures kinda put a damper on my enthusiasm for being outside fiddling with my car (note to self - clean out the garage before winter sets in this year!)
Spring, and nicer weather, saw a couple more changes to the exterior. The first being the rear lights. Personally, I didn't particularly like the stock lights, especially as I had the stage one rears fitted which I felt looked a bit bland and uninteresting. They had to go!

I realize that opinion is very divided on this 'lexus style' of light, but personally I feel that for a whopping 30 quid, they enhance the appearance greatly.

Man this this was awful!
I also decided to try and give the engine bay a once over as it looked really shabby and un-cared for.

Whilst the ones i bought with the car still had a good amount of tread left, they were fairly old and so I felt I might as well bite the bullet and just get a full new set. After looking around online, I decided to go for the Hankook Ventis Prime 3's. So far, i#I've been really impressed with the tyres and wrote a brief write-up of them over in the performance power-ups section.
That's it for now, both the winter, local road-works and some d***head drivers have taken their toll over the winter months, leaving me with a crap load of dents to get removed as well as some paintwork that needs looking at. Also, yesterday on my way home I snapped my gear linkage on a 4 lane highway ,which was interesting to say the least. With a 3400km round trip to and from the UK planned in a few weeks, Lizzie is going in to have a full service and to get the linkage repaired professionally!
I'll try and get some pictures of the bodywork damage up shortly, I've had a quote of roughly 220 quid for getting them all removed by a highly recommended bodyshop, which doesn't seem too bad at all.

If i remember rightly, I did refit the hose after this picture was taken, however I will double check to make sure that this is the case. I know that one of the screws for the airbox, the thread in the box itself was completely gone and I cant tighten down the airbox firmly on that one screw. Should this be something of concern? The other 3 screws tighten down firmly and i couldn't see any air-gap when i checked it. If so, any advice as to what i could use to give the screw something to bite onto other than the old match-stick trick?!
On a different note, when i asked about changing the exhaust manifold, you advised me to replace the engine mounts either at the same time or before doing so to give the new manifold additional support due to it's increased length. On your signature I see that you used the Vibra-technics mounts on your own build. I was looking at these very mounts myself. Were they a straight swap or did anything require altering in any way? Many thanks for your input, i really appreciate it.

I saw this when I put the car up on stands, but no-one could tell me for sure if they should be connected. I'm guessing the lower hose is the air box intake and so should be?

I removed it completely, gave it a clean and treated it with some plastic preservative treatment and refitted it sans cable ties!

To be honest, my non-stop linkage problems p****d me off to the extent I washed my hands of it for a bit and it sat on the drive feeling sorry for itself while I calmed down a bit!
Post holiday, i decided to persevere with it and so ordered some shiny new stainless steel gear linkages from PUG1OFF. Packaging left a bit to be desired as they were simply parcel taped together and chucked into a bag, but the linkages themselves were very nice.
I replaced the stock items which were in a pretty bad state. Guess this explains my problems!
The only problem i now have in this area is that the gear shift is incredibly sloppy. I mean it's worse than when the stock linkages were! I'm sure that this is because the new ones haven't been adjusted properly, so she'll be up on the lift in the next few days to get that sorted before a short shifter kit is ordered. Oh the fun!

Yes, I'm still plugging away at it, however I've reached a stage where due to the age of the car I'm fighting a battle against some French electrical gremlins so no real visible progress to show anyone sadly. I've got a few ideas on how to proceed and will hopefully update later this week if it works!
