yet another problem. i had to drive yet again to cardiff today in this crap weather. went alright half way there and then all of a sudden my power kept on coming and going, this car is driving me mad.

its as if the boost was coming and going all the time. we'll i made it too cardiff and removed the air filter and found it to be wet as my cold air feed in the n/s wheel arch is exposed as my s**t gaurds are out. i also checked the mass air flow and this seems abit wet too so im hopeing its just that, so iv brought them both in my girlfriends house overnight to dry and hopefully that will solve it. :s

i had no engine warning light at all, i was surprised. if it turns out not to be the maf has anyone got any knowledge to what the fault could be as im 70 miles from home and have got to do another 100 in the opposite direction tomorow morning

Just like you are lifting, for a random period of time before it suddenly picking up again? Shortly after mine did that on a trip, the accelerator position sensor threw the EML and needed replacing. Maybe a coincidence but it hasnt done it again since. And shortly before that i had put a new MAF in so i doubt it is that causing your trouble. The MAF normally causes a very lumpy cold idle but is ok when moving.

ye i got a standard airbox with a k&n panel filter, the cold feed from the bottom of the box goes up and then round to just above the n/s wheel.

it does sound like just the maf doesnt it, as its a hot wire type i think, so if water gets on the wire it would affect readings from it.

locky- ye it could be a number of things including that but the normal fault that most people get with maf sensors would be different to the possible fault i am having with it as mine has got wet and i dont think that is generaly the fault with them.

the fault its self is when i put my foot down a little and the boost comes the car will go, then wont then will etc, the power and no power is about 1sec between each other. if it throws up the eml i will be happy as at least i will know what it is.

watch it if i were you. I went through a very deep ford once and must have compressed a little bit of water. week later it blew up. There was a knocking noise too when cold so i think it bent a con rod and gave in later on. Put your wheel arch lining back on ASAP.

i had this on my 2L hdi aswell and it turned out to be a split in the turbo pipe along the seam that was causing the EGR valve to go nuts.

popped up on a scan as intermittent EGR fault

i did make it to my destination but i had to pull over once as the car had filled the filter with water again and there was water on the maf, i have since removed the cold air feed pipe and have a cover over the airbox opening to stop any rubbish going into the airbox. i drove from burnham on sea to llanelli (south west wales) last night and all was well,

i love simple fixes
