Long Chat with Charlie yesterday regarding the new engine... here are his plans.
Newman or Piper 300 cams
Solid lifters
lash caps
Bigger valves
Knife edged crank
Billet steel flywheel
The idea is to build a reliable and strong engine that is capable of revving to 9000rpm. The power needs to be between 4000 and 8000rpm. The targets are. 250BHP and 220Nm of torque with a nice flat torque curve to suit the Sadev sequential box. The engine should still be ready for FCS after mapping at Mtech in Wiltshire.

This will be a vitually new engine. only the head, pistons, rods and crank will be from the old unit.... even the crank could get the chop if its worn or fails the crack test.

Be careful with oil pump. It can be explode at 9000 rpm. Lots of French guys know this problem. My GTI180 Turbo friend lost oil pump 2 times.

They are using French Engine Specialist RDM companys oil pump. But they dont supply any part. Just turn key complete engines. Best EW engine come from RDM. Some second hand oil pumps on sale. But no one open and take picture from inside. What is upgraded. Also xrallyparts can supply oil pump but nearly 900 euro.
Peugeot 207 S2000 with EW10J4S also using wet sump as same as our engines. But that oil pump almost 2500 €. I will gone to dry sump setup.
This company sell dry sump setups. Thats a really solutions. Also lower height oil pan give much more clearance for safety at rally stages. Never oil surge on any corner or condition. But price to much. I cant remember how much. I ask last year.

would it be a slightly higher capacity or flow rate. I know that changing the spring rate increases a 137 pressure no problem
I might pull one to bits and have a look

Thats true but non of engine builders dont know why he used EW12 one. Because there is no difference. Even Sandy Brown cant find why.

Any joy finding a sump pan? I've been looking for a dry sump kit as well but no joy. I emailed the company Alternative Engineering as linked above by Schumi but they no longer sell the kits.

I am looking a modding a standard sump pan. The idea being that you can cut out the majority of the ali pan and get a new plate welded in the bottom. Only problem would be distortion, meaning I would need to get the face skimmed
