Hello

Ill give as much info as I can but my car knowledge is limited, plus my partner has dealt with most of it on her own.

First of all we have an 05 plate 206 1.4. We have had it a few months and had no issues at all. It went through its MOT a month ago with no problems and no advisories. Its also had a new battery recently too (transferred over from our old car). So you would think our car wont have any issues... Wrong!!

We was going on holiday today for a weekend and we went to start the car and it wouldn't start. First we thought it must be the battery so we jumped it, and still nothing. We then put our battery in another 206 and that car started straight away. So clearly not the battery. You can hear the starter motor kicking in and trying to start but still nothing.

We also tried the trick of rolling it down the hill and starting it. A long shot but worth a try - still no luck.

Finally we admitted defeat and had it towed to a garage in hope we would get it fixed within a few hours and then head off on holiday... if only!

So far its cost us nearly £400 and the problem hasn't been fixed. The garage seems to have no idea what could be causing it. From what ive been told, so far they have checked the fuel pump, replaced the coilpack, hooked it upto a diagnostics software which confused them even more with the errors they were getting. I think they got an error for everything but don't quote me on that (will find out tomo).

The last thing they tried was related to the electrics which they think could be the problem. My partner thinks It was called an E34 or something similar to that(could be way off sorry) - this didn't resolve it. After all this was done, the mechanic said there was no communication to the computer.

So £400 later and still no fix. they've kept it over night and basically said they are trying to sell a dead horse with no response.

Does anyone have any ideas at all?!

Felt like a flat battery? Is it the very common earth fault?

By trying to jump start and bump start it, you could have done a lot of damage. This could throw up loads of DTCs

Personally I would refuse to pay for the parts that they have needlessly replaced or ask them to prove that they were faulty. Why would anyone replace something that is working perfectly fine.
You can also ask for all the old parts back if they won't put them back on the car, after all, you own them. Keep them as spares just in case.

Has or is IMMOBILISER FAULT or REMOTE BATTERY LOW ever been showing on the Multi Function Display.

Have you tried the spare key, if you have one, just to eliminate.

How would I stand with the garage and refusing to pay for the parts? I do feel very much robbed.

Unfortunately don't have a spare key. Ill relay any of this information to the garage but I do feel it money totally down the drain and no holiday at the end of it.

Ive also never had those faults on the display.

You relate to the E34, I think she means BM34, which is the Engine fusebox, ask the mechanic if he has checked the 2 - 70AMP Maxi fuses that supply the BSI.

Thanks for all the comments and all as been passed on.

It's still in the garage and they reckon it could be related to the ecu or bmi (I think they said bmi). They have taken the bmi out to check the wiring as they feel it could be the actual wiring that's Damaged in some way.

Does anyone have any idea how much these parts tend to cost? I know the ecu is expensive and I'm assuming they'll buy new from a peugeot dealer Sad

It's odd how inept a lot of 'garages' sound these days.

Before replacing parts, the normal protocol should be:

- Does the starter motor engage?
- Check the battery & earths
- Check fuses
- Check fuel supply
- Check ignition supply

They shouldn't really be changing any parts without having diagnosed anything. Sounds like the whole 's**t at a wall' method of diagnosis!


Depending on where you get them from, you can get a matching ECU/BSI and transponder for a decent price, as per this (should the part numbers match)

Just found out it was an issue with the key after all that!!

Total cost for something ridiculous was: £ 435!!
