Hi,
I want to replace the front shocks of my 206, but I can't seem to find any good info online on how the proper removal procedure. In particular, is there a way to remove the shock without disassembling the lower suspension arm (wishbone?)? I've tried to remove the shock without doing this, but it looks like the suspension arm cannot swing low enough for the shock to be removed without compressing it. Should this be possible and am I missing something obvious? If there's no way to remove a shock absorber without disconnecting the suspension arm and steering bar, is this doable without special tools? I did find a guide that describes doing this using a "Swivel ball joint uncoupling lever" and "Ball joint extractor", both of which are highly specialized tools I don't have.

I've done that, it's dangerous, and requires spring compressors (but luckily nothing else)

You'd better off with a long scaffold bar to pop the balljoint instead (my case was tougher as I already had polybushes and needed an exfra long leverage that wasn't around at that time). It's the official way described in Hayne's manual and on here too: www.peugeot206cc.co.uk...cg0sk3.htm
There's also a way of just using crowbar like so m.youtube.com/watch?v=vNwJCp58I_s but if doing this first time, you'd run a risk of damaging the rubber gaiters, which is MOT fail (if suspension survives until it due to ingress of dirt:)
The choice is yours, but considering the forces involved, I'd take it off to a garage, if never done before, and not feeling particularly crazy and/or adventureous

A 206 isnt the best car to learn on how to take front suspension apart.
Popping the front wishbone ball joint out of the hub can easily end up filling a swear jar.

Thanks for the info, it really helped. I was able to remove the old shock using the method you describe. Refitting the new shock was a bit more challenging, but in the end I managed that too. Guess I was feeling adventurous after all :).

Happy you did it!
Yep, I can imagine refitting a standard shock might be fiddly, due to how much spring gets compressed.
Did you remove the front wings out of interest?
