Hi, I wasn't too sure on where to post this. I have a OBDII Maxiscan MS309 tool. I haven't used it until today when I was working on a neighbours car. Plugged it in and it powered up, showed there was 1 fault which I then went on to read the code and it comes up with "no codes stored in the module". Also it keeps coming up with "make sure key is on, engine is off". When I plug the scan tool in I turn the key to the second point just before the turn to start the car.
Anyone know how to sort this? Any help will be massively appreciated!

I tried it on two cars, a Peugeot 206cc and a Citroen Picasso, both said the same thing. Messaged the person who I brought the OBD tool off and he thinks it could be a manufacturer fault and has offered to send a replacement to see.

Some fault codes are manufacturer specific & some aftermarket code readers won't read them OR give you the wrong fault description.
Peugeot Planet / Citroen Lexia would be ideal for those 2 cars

Not unusual for off the shelf OBD readers especially as OBDII is NOT a UK/European system .. it's US so if the car you are trying was not exported to them and results you get are likely to be spurious. UK and European cars use EOBD after 2001 (petrol) /2004 (Diesels) and prior to that it could have been anything even vehicle specific diagnostics. (But PSA still make it difficult by including some is the BSI which no code reader can get to!)
The ONLY reader I found to work on Pugs (and that includes Citroen and Renault) is a Sealey unit specifically programmed for PSA vehicles .. and cost over £200 several years ago.
As MrBSI says you really need PeugeotPlanet and/or Lexia to get the true fault codes and also access the BSI unit on pre-plex and multiplex cars.
My money is on the next one you receive giving you exactly the same results ..

Thank you so much everyone for you replies! I will be sending the one I have back and receiving another one as the seller thinks it's a manufacturers fault. If that fails I will buy a different reader.

on my 206 i plug the obd2 in be fore even putting key in ignition or all i get is link error
