I'm looking for a new car, I've been looking at getting a 1.6 Quicksilver or Sport HDI.

Just wondering what your thoughts are. I've heard that they can blow turbos when the banjo bolt gets clogged, some people remove the mesh but surely this is equally as dangerous?

Go make an appointment with your GP to get your head examined.

Owning a DV6TED4 powered 206 is like trying to hold on to a hand grenade with the safety pin removed, sooner or later its going to go BANG.

If you are foolish enough to still go & buy one, get breakdown cover - you will need it!

Fair enough, do you have any suggestions for a new car, I want something with more power that is fairly cheap to run and insure for an 18 year old probably around 1k?

More power, cheap to run and low insurance for an 18-year old don't usually go in the same sentence. You might be better off waiting a bit longer with the 1.1 and getting some NCB on your insurance.

When I was 19, all my friends where paying fortunes for third party fire & theft cover to drive around in old Fiesta XR2 / XR3I / Nova SR's etc.

I was paying a lot less for fully comprehensive cover for a newer 2.0 litre Peugeot 405 GTX - the reason it was so cheap to insure was because it's a family car that a young person wouldn't normally own & so was classed a low risk so cheaper insurance.

Insurance companies see any 206 + young person = most likely an insurance total loss pay out going by there previous risk factors & statistics.

The 1.6 hdi as mentioned earlier is a ticking time bomb if you're looking at cheap second hand. Their turbo problems stem from one main problem...lubrication. A lot of diesel owners still believe that diesel engines are indestructible(I hear this a fair bit). The dv6 is a torquey little lump but PSA/Ford should have stated from the beginning that service intervals are critical. 9000 miles is the most I would recommend the dv6 does between oil/filter change. The fully synthetic (early models used C3 grade) oil does degrade and with a 3.5 litre minimum oil capacity that seems to be quite a quick degradation too. Turbo replacement although relatively simple is pretty time consuming and as previously mentioned requires new banjo bolts and feed and return pipes as well as modified sump and new pick up pipe too. So unless you have a fat-wad of money on stand-by for a turbo replacement or are fortunate enough to find one that has a pristine service history...Stay well clear.(Fords, pugs, citroens and even volvo had this lump in!). That being said a guy I know bought his ex-company car 206 hdi sw(with an amazing service history!) for an absolute song a while back, the car has sailed past 200+k with the original turbo. Same can't be said about the gearbox, clutch and flywheel though! lol

A few years back, we had a period of new users signing up on here asking for advice after picking up an Ebay / Autotrader bargain.

All had a running theme, they had bought it cheap & it would have a DV6 under the bonnet not running correctly.

Shame they didn't ask on here first before parting with there money.
