In spite of attempts to make sure this never happened; telling my missus to get a backup key cut, repeatedly, it inevitably happened and the only remaining non-remote key was lost on a holiday we had recently.

The remote key had been lost a few years ago and I knew it was something that should have been sorted out but it clearly never was.

So far, I’ve had a quote of £120 for a non-remote locking key and between £130-170 for a remote one from a Manchester locksmith. Is this right?

Anyway, what are my options to get my missus back on the road before she starts asking to drive mine? Very Happy

How near to Bradford are you?

I can recommend someone who can cut & code keys for older Peugeots like this.

Do you have the 4 digit security code for the immobiliser to allow keys to be coded?

It was a blue plastic card with Peugeot logo & a silver scratch panel under which is a 4 digit alpha numeric code.

I’m 30 miles from Bradford.

For the code you mention, I’d have to look for that. I assume it could be in the car, if it’s something we even have. Without the key, I’d have to find some way to get into the car before even being able to check we have it...

My missus has no confidence that the code is in her car. What are my options?

Take your V5 to the local dealer and see if they'll give you it for free, or if not what they'll charge to give you the code.

We went to the local Peugeot Dealer today (Sunday) and it just so happens to be the one day of the week when there are no Technicians. Anyway, one of the sales guys recommended a mobile key replacement firm and we were quoted £140 for manual / £175 for remote locking keys.

My missus is ready to get them to sort it out on Friday this week but ahead of that, can someone tell me what the benefit of getting the 4 digit security code (the one on the blue plastic scratch panel) is? Is that so we can go somewhere else to get it done cheaper? If so, what's the process for this and how much are we likely to save doing it that way, rather than the mobile key guy?

Thanks in advance for all your help here, I appreciated it lots.

I'm pretty sure I've seen somewhere security codes are no longer available from Peugeot for the 206 as the cars are now just to old.

Without the code you would need someone to extract the 4 digit security pin from the BSI before you can code any keys to the car.

If you had the 4 digit alphanumeric security code anyone with the correct equipment can code keys to the car.
