Hello all,

I though rather then making multiple thread it might be easier to list all the electrical issues I've been experiencing in one place and let people throw their comments in the ring... any help would be warmly received.

1. Radiator fan not working, highspeed works when stop light is on but low sleep/ ac fan not working at all. fuses okay, changed relay on front of radiator but still not working. what else should I look at?

2. Speedo intermittently stops working, odometer stops working at the same time so am I thinking speedo sensor on the gear box? fyi also showing speedo fault using obd2.

3. coolant temperature fault code being shown (Thank you MrBSI and gazza82 for your help on this one).

4. Handbrake warning beeps three times when lifted and the car isn't moving.

5. Remote central locking doesn't unlock until manually unlocked with the key. The car will happily open and close remotely until all the electrics go to sleep, resets and have to start over again.

Can I say I've never been one for naming cars but I've seriously been considering calling my 2002 1.4 automatic Gizmo for the amount of gremlins I'm experiencing at the moment! Wink

Hi,

1. Could you activate the low speed relay manually to check? Alternatively, run the low speed fan actuator test from a Peugeot Planet if you have access to one

2. I have the same problem on my 1.4 HDi, it's without ABS and I'll inspect the sensor on the gearbox (it started working once after a speedier test drive, but hasn't come back since (probably was on its last leg).
If you have ABS, speed is read from ABS sensors and gearbox sensor socket is blanked off. Though that would most likely throw an ABS error too.

4. That's because vehicle does not get speed reading, and it's stuck at non-zero, so car thinks you are in motion and beeps at tentative handbrake turns;)

Hi Sim,

Thank you for your reply.

Since my original post I've made some changes.

1. I've now changed the fans resistor in the radiator but still no joy. I've still got to check the blue fan switch but after that I'm thinking wiring which I'm really not a fan of messing around with Wink

worst comes to worst I'm thinking a switch to manually operate the fan.

2. I've finally replaced the speedo sensor in the top of the gearbox and the issue has now been resolved Very Happy

The bolt which holds the sensor in place had been rounded out by a previous owner so was a garage job to replace, £21 for the part and an hours labour + VAT.

Would recommend doing it yourself if you've happy to do so.

3. Thanks again for the support.

4. This was the easiest fix of the lot... I removed the switch under the handbrake, no beeping, no warning light... sorted! I've still got the switch which I'll put back if I sell the car but for me I'm happy not having it.

5. Glad I'm not the only one. Touch wood the central locking is working properly to the moment but I'll continue to monitor it.

The very early 206 the cooling fan harness is a separate plug in loom - if your handy with a soldering iron & heatshrink it can be used to repair a later car. Cooling fan connector plug would need swopping over.

Re-: 4 you may or may not find an issue with this at MoT time depending on your tester, worth grabbing a working switch from a scrapper if you get the chance, or cleaning up the contacts on the old one.

I think his switch works, it was simply beeping due to faulty speedo that he had rectified afterwards (and I just happened to be caught in a spree of such double-whammies over the past few weeks :))

You need that switch on the handbrake for convenience and safety though..
I have to admit taking-off with the handbrake partly-up a couple of times in my career.. Laughing

And that's even with the handbrake warning light on the dashboard.
Esp. since I pull up the handbrake when waiting at red lights.

FWIW: The handbrake switch is the same as the glovebox light switch ( if fitted ) - last time I priced one up it was extremely cheap new from any Peugeot / Citroen main dealer.
