i was going to modify the subframe and use orignal wishbones but as the 205 arms are rose jointed already it was a simpler option and give good steering geometery adjustment
out of curiosity what way would you have done it?
#11: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: EdCherry, Location: WiltshirePosted: Sat Feb 13, 2010 5:06 pm ---- Would have made the wishbones from scratch to fit the original subframe personally... might have been more expensive but would have been worth it from my point of view.
Still looking a good build get some more piccies and info up.

Thanks its a bit of a slow project at it nearly 18mths and its just a rolling shell
started off as just a gpa build but when i fitted the wrc kit the wheels were lost under arches and wasnt keen on widening it using spacers so widening the track was the best option
its a custom cages kit not 100% sure on price i think it was £800

#19: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: briant, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Dec 31, 2010 5:47 pm ---- This project hasnt been touched in nearly 12 months due to work and other committments,This has to be the longest running rallycar built ever
but i got some time to dust it off and get few bits done in last few weeks
there was a lot of work cutting & modifing to get fiberglass front wings and bumper to fit
eventually i got it fitted ok,so started on making wiring looms you can see from pics the loom was just a ball of wires
so i just cut all required connections from orignal loom and cut the wires as i need them from the loom(Bit of recycling ) even though i used the wiring and connections from orignal loom when i was finished making the loom i still had a awful lot of orignal wiring left over, so im pretty happy with decision to make a custom loom and the result as every bit of excess weight removed is a good job
I really hope i can get the time to keep working on this and get it finished
plan is to fit engine and make looms for throttle boddies & ignition then remove engine for full rebuild and tape up all the loom anyway enuf with the chat heres the pics
Pic of the front mocked up
This is what i had left over from orignal loom
The orignal loom

Yep ecu has a base map id be guessing it one of the maps he started with on your car tbh i have the ecu and tb's 12mths or so i think the V3 is nearly obsolete at this stage
I think it was you who posted a link to the dash in your orignal build thread

Glad it helped..... one thing to make sure of is the earthing... I had an issue with the coil drivers going pop because the main earth points were not good enough and it earthed thru the drivers and knocked em out. The Acer is a good bit of kit... you can get the rev limiter and shift light to calibrate with the ECU software and it is more than good enough for rally work.... bit bright at night though

#40: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: briant, Location: IrelandPosted: Sun Nov 27, 2011 10:06 am ---- I sort of had lost interest in this for while but after break away from it i got stuck in again
I took back out orignal rear axle i got a 206SW rear axle but it had drum brakes, so i converted it to use 288mm front discs used the callipers from front brake kit i had and widened the track of axle by 160mm,removed the orignal anti roll bar and fitted adjustable ARB and finally fitted alloy Peugeot Sport axle bushings.
Other bits done are
Front driveshafts are now sorted and fitted
Peugeot Sport sump guard fitted
Fitted Front Heated windscreen & 1/4 windows
have set a deadline to do my local Tarmac Stages Rally at end of Feb so will have regular updates on this
next on list is finish bodywork then engine & gearbox rebuilds

It has to lock the wheels on the operation of the lever and remain locked with the hand removed from the lever. The usual way round it on a hydraulic handbrake is to fit a pin in the lever to hold it on

i started making fiberglass moulds so here are a few pics
After several coats of this so mould dosent stick to the parts

2 coats of gelcoat on all panels
[img]

then 3 layers of matt & resin
wing with 1 coat
[img]
[/img]
bumper and skirts with 3 layers ready to pull moulds (provided the wax worked )
should have wings finished monday night then pull moulds
& make new wings & skirts i am using the bumper supplied but not wings as there is too much bodyfiller & fiberglass in the modded wings

Im no expert in making moulds but not sure if tin foil would be good enough personally i would be make shape of mudguard with polystyrene cover it with skin of bodyfiller then sand any imperfections then make the mould
not sure on using car wax cant see why it wouldnt work but you need to apply a coat of 'release agent' its a blue liquid applied on top of the wax brfore the Gelcoat

TBH the kit wasnt great i had to modify every part of it except the front bumper.had no brackets nothing
dont get me wrong its not an expensive kit but a lot of work ,i had to modify side skirts and wings so much they would have fell to pieces so i moulded them when i got the fit correct and made new wings & skirts.
if you can do bodywork yourself then you may not be so bad but id estimate i spent near 100hrs on bodywork alone & its no show car would need a lot more work to be up to that standard as a rallycar its fine
i will be able to make exact copies of my wings, skirts & bumpers but didnt make mould of rear 1/4's
if you want any close up pics of brackets etc let me know

also i dont have 100hrs etc as its my daily drive
might have to give the kit some thinking before i dive in

#93: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: briant, Location: IrelandPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:15 pm ---- Just a small update, the eagle eyed among you may have noticed after i painted the side of car i had 2 different shades of red
the orignal colour i got around 3 years ago and supplier has gone out of buisness so i needed more paint and new supplier tells me there was only 1 shade and orignal paint was wrong colour for the code.
I was never 100% happy with 1st shade as i was expecting it to be reder(if thats even a word)
anyway long story short couldnt get a match for orignal paint so ended up repainting doors, roof and boot here's a pic from today finally all the same shade of red was a bit of a setback but looks a lot better

#96: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: Schumi, Location: Istanbul / TurkeyPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:18 pm ---- I'm sorry to hear that. I hate color match problems. But Its just look amazing. I'm waiting your front bumper photos.
I hope next year will start widebody conversation.
I sort of had lost interest in this for while but after break away from it i got stuck in again
Fitted Front Heated windscreen & 1/4 windows
have set a deadline to do my local Tarmac Stages Rally at end of Feb so will have regular updates on this
next on list is finish bodywork then engine & gearbox rebuilds
here are a few pics of progress

I love the new colour, more than the original
It may have taken a long time so far but boy its been worth it!
What are you doing to the engine, what will it improve......in easy terms please as i'm no tech?

I think you need GTI180 inlet manifold gasket for measurement and port match.

im using jenvey tb's & inlet manifold supplied with kit from Mtech i ported the inlet manifold as much as i could and matched the ports in the head.
my engine has rubber seals on inlet manifold so were no good for measurments
have you any pics or measurments from 180 inlet manifold ill go bigger if i can
i need all the feedback/info i can get cant afford to send out or purchase a cyl head already ported so hoping to do work myself
#107: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: Schumi, Location: Istanbul / TurkeyPosted: Mon Sep 03, 2012 3:23 am ---- Actually I have better photos of ports but I cant find now. If I remember when I go home tonight i will send much more photos.
And you will be suprise how exhaust ports bigger on gti 180. I will send exhaust ports photos to.

could port the inlet at the same time?
#111: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:31 am ---- I'd use a cardboard template to see how the ports compare to each other.
1 week later I will be give another little trick. But I need to be sure.

#115: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: briant, Location: IrelandPosted: Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:47 pm ---- some great pics & info thanks to all
I ported up the inlet manifold bolted it on & was able to mark cyl head through the manifold to get exact match ill compare pics to the longman head to see how it looks,
@Schumi i havent opened the exhausts as much as my exhaust manifold isnt as big as gasket so i matched cylinder head to ex manifold with made up gasket/cardboard
now im thinking my manifold(raceland stainless) is not good enuf if i can open ports more id need to get a better quality manifold to make full use of bigger ports
#116: Re: Briant's 206 rallycar build loads of pics Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Sep 04, 2012 2:18 am ---- Although I didn’t port mine myself I got some cardboard and placed it on the face of the head. Then mark out where the ports are – then cut the holes in the cardboard. Then place this on the inlet manifold to show you the size of the ports.
