does anybody know when the the cambelt should be changed on a 180 and how much it roughly cost. mine is 04 plate with 38,000. so im thinking sooner rather later.

5 years MAXIMUM!!

My cambelt & waterpump were changed by Kyle (gti180boy) at his workshop - cost just under £250 from memory.

Pug dealers will charge a lot more - it takes at least 4½ hours by a professional

It is a pain, but has to be done!

If you are desperate and can get to Stafford (M6 J13) then give Kyle a PM.

Failing that, a decent local garage should be able to do it successfully.

I changed mine at 49k (5 years), I've heard varying stories ranging from 50k to 80k but as said, it's an expensive mistake to fix if it goes!

Mine was changed after 5¼ years, at 53000 miles (mine's a 54-plate).
My original fanbelt was hardly worn, so wasn't replaced (it was only about £15).

The cambelt was actually 'bouncing' about 1" (it was slack), so could have gone at any time.

I'm just thankful I don't have to worry about cambelts any more! They give me the frights!

One cambelt & water pump every 5 years
It's no big deal Rolling Eyes

No, but it's one less thing to worry about and be concerned about revving an engine and overstretching rubber. Rev it and it's half that.

Personally would have cambelts done every 3 years/30k miles anyway, rubber perishes badly.
