Today i got some total gear oil as recommended earlier and would like to ask how i would be able to top up the gear oil?

I asked the staff at the dealership and he said i can do it from the engine with a use of a funnel etc. where as i read the how to on here and it required to go under the engine in order to fill it up?

Tips and advice please.

You can do it from the top too... there is a breather hole which you can pour it straight into Wink

I have looked at it but doesnt seem to be the breather hole on top of the engine and rather a different filler hole elsewhere?

Would be easier for me if it was on the top side of engine bay as i do not have a stand.

as you have lost some you dont know how much to put back in and could over fill using the breather method. (the breather hole is under the batt box has a black cap on top of it)

best off getting a gearbox key and doing it that way, just hold the car level with a jack and put a wheel under it just if the worst should happen if you havent got a stand.

Thanks for the advice, will have to see when my friend is free as he got the jacks and stands to lift the car up, but other than that, i can only accomplish the breather hole method and the amount i lost probably equates to about 300ml (a can's amount).

if you know how much come out iwould do it that way, i would and have done when i know what came out.

or i have used it to fill up my empty gearbox as i know how much its ment to hold.

bit of a bodge way but i have not had a problem doing the breather way *touch wood*

Other than removing the battery and going under it to the breather hole, any equipment i would need to pour some in? Some is better than not at all and i can always re top-up the oil. I would imagine a funnel to filter the oil in?

I have the Total 75w80 from peugeot.

hose pipe with a slit in the end so it squashes together and can push into hole, no need to remove any thing then, other than the breather cap.

tho if u do find it tight (as not done it before) just need to remove batt and batt box/tray.
