I enjoyed driving the 309 over the summer but i must say I am getting a bit fed up of the 1.9 engine. Not because the engine itself is knackered etc - far from it in fact - it's running sweet as a nut at the moment. But it's underpowered, the management's iffy and guzzles loads of fuel and I know for a fact i get better MPG from my 180 - so why wouldn't i get similarly good mpg from another 16v engine? My original future plan was to remove the engine, paint it and put it back in all nice and shiny. But it seems like an opportunity missed to do something a bit more special. Plus...after seeing Kev's old car in the flesh i decided that I wanted a slice of that action!

This is "Kev's car" by the way folks, which has recently been sold onto another member on 309oc.

So i've been doing a lot of reading and chatting to Kev over the past few months and funnily enough, Kev spotted a cheap gti-6 loom going on eBay.

So here we have a gti-6 loom...it's not perfect but it was only £22.50 delivered to my door step.

Not sure what this is off of but it's a simple solder them back on fix. Not sure what they're for yet though it was described in the ebay advert as " fuel canister thingy near the engine mount" not sure what this means. I'm not sure if he meant the charcoal canister "thingy" in which case it wouldn't be needed anyway?

Apparently this holds (sump plug) but i hear they're available from pug so i'll re-new it.

and a 309 loom but not from this car i might add!

So far so good, after a bit of inspection of the 309 loom, it seems that the wires are exactly the same as the diagrams over on 205gti drivers. So it should be relatively straight forward! Very Happy

Now i must go and find some solder and get those wiring diagrams out Smile

Hey stranger. Yeah it won't be done overnight and yes, this will be because i want it to look mint like the white one up there ^^^ Only with much less red hosing!

It will primarily take a long time as i need to ask my dad very kindly if i can borrow a corner of his drive for err...a few months. Over the winter I want to gather all the bits.

The car needs a re-spray first including the engine bay before I do anything so we're talking quite a long time away to be quite honest. Other alternative is to get the engine bay painted along, engine in. Then get the rest of the car done at another date but then the engine would get COVERED in dust etc from the re-spray and that would be a bit heartbreaking!

The seller turned out to be a time wasting (probably dodgy) bumface.

Ken, lesson learned though - buy from someone through a club rather than faffing about on ebay!

I wish! It would be like 2-3 grand for the engine alone.

I know, and he's not THAT far away. But tbh, the engines worth £X but the rest of the car isn't worth £Y! Not to mention that he's not breaking the car for bits.

A package arrived this morning with some gti-6 calipers in it! £55 delivered off ebay, for that money I was expecting them to be absolute mince but was worth a go! On first inspection they seem to be fine, there's even still signs of the original zinc coating in areas so all is well so far. Will take them apart anyway and see what the full story is though!

Dirty little bugger!

Clayed the car today but i don't have any finished pics because it was too dark and too cold to re-clean it after a clay! So they'll come tomorrow before i polish and wax it for the winter Very Happy

Not really sure what i'm doing with the whole engine front now to be honest! Think i'm gonna give the gti-6 idea a miss. Just not that special these days imho. Keeping the engine standard for now!

A smashing parcel has arrived!!

Brand new and this company www.peugeotparts.co.uk/ wanted £170 for one...I got this on ebay for £70 delivered! Very Happy

There's a crack on the spoiler so for all the difference in price it would be to buy a second hand one, at that price I was as well getting a new one and also safe in the knowledge that it's not on it's way to cracking etc!
