They're an engineering/automotive company who know exactly what they're doing! Plus semis will have much better toughness than a tread tyre.

My old job used to involve practically driving for a living though. If I were you I'de just fit the right size tyres if you're driving your car alot.
With inner wall tyre wear it's also difficult to see how worn the tyre is, unless you take the wheel off to have a look.

I'm running 185/45's on a 15x8 wheel and they've been perfectly fine, two of my dustcaps are seized on so I can't put air in two of the tyres, not that I've needed to, they don't leak air at all. I've given the car death on a few occasions, I've had the tyres screeching and felt the weight of the car shifting, so to my mind the tyres would just break traction before you even get near popping them off the rim. Another couple of ways that would back up this theory is that drift cars run stretch with no issues, and obviously they put massive stress on their tyres! Also, when I went to have my wheel alignment sorted out, I got speaking to a guy who worked at the place I went to, I think he said his son ran stretched tyres, and he explained to me the amount of pressure you'd need to physically pop the tyres off the rim, and it was a lot, you'd not get near that sort of pressure whilst cornering, that was the point he was making.
pete_206 - the tyres balding on the inner edge was most likely down to poor wheel alignment...
My stretch:
One downside I've found to stretched tyres is that I get a lot of stone chips to the rear wheel lips, as obviously they're more exposed! Doesn't bother me much though, the red lip tape stops most of it, and failing that I just touch them up with touch up paint, they were chipped when I bought them anyway.

Extreme to say the least, I think he was a bit scared of them himself so never really pushed it hard round corners. They never came off though. And for the record he now runs wider tyres.
I don't condone anything that extreme, but the point is, he ran them successfully so it shows how far you can potentially go I guess.
