I am thinking of buying a 206 1.4 but havent got a clue what to look out for, will be looking at 2 cars tomorow.
The first a 1.4 GLX 2000 x reg - 105,000 miles.
The second is 1.4 LX 1999 136,000.

I am slightly worried with the high mileage on the second, should I be?

Anything I should look out for,are there any common faults with cars of this age that will end up costing me a fortune. and please explain in simple terms as mechanically minded I am not Crying or Very sad

Many Thanks

I would look for lower milage to be honest.

105000 would be the best bet. wouldn't bother with the 136000, waste of your time.

tbh though - both cars are 10 years old, so condition will be more important than mileage.
The GLX has more toys, and early 1.4's are less reliable than later versions.

You're obviously buying on a budget, so buy the best you can afford.

Thanks for advice, yes the budget is very tight, but laso only do around 3000 miles a year. Had to sell my mazda 323f 1.8 to downsize to a smaller more economical car, and the 206 is the only small car that i actually like the look of, corsas are boring and fiestas are yuk, vw polos of the same age although probably more reliable but the interior is frigging horrible.

So thanks, defo going to look at the glx tomos.

GLX 105,00 £995
LX 136000 £895

Your not gonna beat me to it are you? Smile

To be honest really not sure what engine size to get, only going for 1.4 because of the tax.
What about diesel engines around the same era, are they reliable?

only diesel worth having is the 1.4hdi.

you will have to do a fair bit of hunting as people want them.

I have one and i can get 77mpg on a motorway run (off boost)

and my tax is only £30 a year Very Happy

Could you not stretch a few hundred quid more?

The only reason i say is because....

Last year, for £1300, i got a 1.4 LX (a/c, electric windows, mirrors etc), approx 65k miles, 1 elderly owner from new (he kept every tax disk from new :P), FSH, taxed & MOT 1 year.

It just took me 2 weeks to find, knocked him down from £1400. There are bargains out there. If i see anything on Autotrader ill just post it here, i usually browse it day to day.
