Kitsune's Creation..

#1: Kitsune's Creation.. Author: -Kitsune-, Location: Johannesburg, South Africa PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 6:47 am
    ----
So, instead of pasting a million threads about what I have done to my car as I do it, I decided to make a project page! YaY me!! Razz

Anyways, my car is basically a standard Red 2006 GTi180 with a few little alterations..

And just a by the by, I LOOOOVE LED's..

So anyway, here is my car.. I stole the Vinyl idea from NFS UG2, it was one of the level 2 flag designs, I cut and applied the vinyl myself as well..

So far besides the freeflow exhaust system I've only done visual alterations..

First off was changing the MFD to blue SMD LED's, unfortunately because of the kind of LCD that is used on the 2006 models it doesn't look as good as it did on my 04 model..
*04 model LCD*

*06 model LCD*

I've done the aircon display in blue and white as well, just dont have pics of it..

Next was the under door lights, unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to do both doors because I ran out of LED's and only recently got a chance to buy more.

Theeen I changed the inside light and reading light.
I replaced the inside light with 20 LED's.. It's like daylight in the car now..

I also placed LED's in my fog lights so when my sidelights are on they come on as well.

And now recently I'm working on my side mirror indicator.
The plan is to have 8 LED's that run in sequence across the mirror when indicating, I unfortuanately only had 4 LED's to use last night so I only have those in..
Will get the last of the components probably this weekend..

They dont look very bright because they running off of a little battery just to test.

Anyway that's all for now..

Wow you do love your LED's!

Looking very nice mate. Would love to see how-to for the mirror LED's, I think that is great idea.

Keep it up.

Meh, it's not for everyone, it makes my car unique..

THe sides were just an ebay special, it's the ones with 5 SMD LED's on them.. I want to get the 9 SMD LED ones or otherwise use a luxeon star there but I'll do that when I have cash again..

I do so love them :D.
I have been taking pics so I'll see what I can do if I get time..

Wired straight to the live at the fuse box.. Got a reed switch on the door to detect when it's closed..

what LED's did you use for the under-door lighting dude? and where did you get them? I'm liking them alot Very Happy

I was going to do puddle lights, bought all the stuff about a year ago and put all the wires in place, just can't be arsed to fit the lights Laughing

I don't like the interior light one bit, looks pretty ugly.

I'm liking the wing mirrors tho Smile Are you gunna have to use a PCB to get them to go in sequence?
Seen them on a fire engine in the states during the summer, look ace

@SAB Go here: HKJE LED
They're the 5mm super flux LED's, 25000mcd, dont get the 5 die LED's they have a green tinge to them and only double the brightness..

@Lee Yip! But it's a really simple transistor based circuit and you can add 2 LED's onto the string at a time..
Luckily there's enough space inside the mirror housing to put the PCB.
The pic of the inside light is with the cover off, lol it's in my boot, I took it off and haven't gotten a chance to put it back.. It looks OEM when the light is off and the cover is on..
Just not sure, I'm somehow going to have to get a constant feed from the indicators?

#12: Re: Kitsune's Creation.. Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:58 pm
    ----
Can't you just piggy back the feed from the side repeater in the wing? Then if it needs like a constant +12v just take one from the fuse box

EDIT: infact, cant you get the +12v from the motor in the folding mirrors?

#13: Re: Kitsune's Creation.. Author: -Kitsune-, Location: Johannesburg, South Africa PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 3:15 pm
    ----
The problem is that the "Running LED's" need a constant DC supply otherwise it will just start off then turn off again with the repeater.. So I am going to have to think of something else..
I know there should be a simple solution just cant think of one right now..
Do you know if the indicators are driven by a relay still or if it's done in the BSI?

#14: Re: Kitsune's Creation.. Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 3:19 pm
    ----
So you want them constantly on, and then flash with the indicators? Like side markers

Its a relay within the circuit in the BSI as far as i know.

#15: Re: Kitsune's Creation.. Author: -Kitsune-, Location: Johannesburg, South Africa PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 3:41 pm
    ----
Basically, I need it to be constantly on while the indicator is on, so it needs to be connected to the circuit before the switching relay..
Excuse me if I make absolutely no sense, really tired..
"in the BSI" Hmm, that was what I was afraid of.. I'm scared of that little box..

#16: Re: Kitsune's Creation.. Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 4:27 pm

Just thought now, get the feed from the COM2000. because the stalk is just directing the power as its basically a switch, so surely that would be a constant feed?

I was thinking that too but I'm not sure #1 how to actually get in there to get to the unit and #2 where to splice from..
Dont suppose you have wiring diagrams of that? I think I may have asked you once before though.. Hmm Wait, lemme search for it..

Nope Paul, I usually just do e-bay..

The LED's don't look bad and the indicator's in the mirror is a nice modification. I'm really not liking the graphics though.

Looks very nice, the vinyl dragon does actually fit in quite well but foglights that come on with sidelights? do you have an override switch as it's illegal to drive with your foglights on unless its raining or foggy

^ Fixed (^-^)

LOL anyway, the PoPo are waaaay to lazy to even bother with the whole fog lights thing, it's also illegal here.. It's also just a glow and not the light itself burning so they'll get over it or I'll fight it in court..

On another note, I FINALLY got time to sort out the one side mirror finished, still need to do the wiring to the switch on the indicator stalk but at least the circuit is built and the LED's are in, on one side at least, now I need the time and energy to do the other side..

So here's a vid I made of it running in my kitchen.. Razz

CCFL, is that wise? One knock to the bottom of your door and its overs for your light, also there's not much space under there, I placed the LED's in the little indents under the door

That looks awesome, I assumed they would just flash like indicators, but those running lights look awesome

They will be fine where I am placing them. They will go under the door pockets so space will not be an issue. They will double up to light the foot wells when closed too.

You will proberbly like what I have bought too. I will be making a post including them once they arrive from china.

So an update on this, when I was thinking more clearly, lol I realized I could use a capacitor to hold the charge in a relay while the repeater is off..
I made a quick circuit diagram if anyones interested.
I used a 1000uF 24v Electrolytic capacitor as 1000uF kept it on long enough for the wing mirror indicator to complete a full cycle (of 8 LED's).
You probably only need one around about 6-700uF to keep it on between repeater cycles.
D1 is used to stop the capacitor from draining back into the cars electronics (without this it wont work).
D2 is used as Suppression for the power spike a relay creates when turning off (can be in the hundreds to thousands of volts).

Ive just connected the relay switch to the negative as it is easier running just a single cable to the circuit board.

So basically now when the repeater is turned on, the relay activates closing the circuit, as the repeater flashes, it charges the capacitor and the capacitor keeps the relay in that state as the repeater turns off then goes back to charging when it turns on again.
The 1000uF cap allows the relay to stay on for about 2 seconds after it loses power.

As soon as I've done the other mirror I'm going to hook it up.
