Hi,

I have just bought a 1.4 HDI but is really slow. You can hear the turbo spooling but still down on power.

Any ideas?

Dave

diagnostic check, could be any sensor, actuator, turbo, could be anything so diagnostic is a good place to start

On a steep hill it struggles to get above 30 and can't get past second gear as it dies in thrd. On the motorway on a flat section its struggling to keep 70.

Feels to hit a flat spot at about 2500 - 3000 revs

Hi Gents,

Just an update on the power loss problems. The code it brought up apparently relates to a blocked exhaust, more likely to be a collapsed catalyst.

Will be taking it off one evening this week to attack it! One its all cleared out I should be back up and running!

I'll keep you posted.

Check out the exhaust first, otherwise it sounds like the 'maf' is bad, remove it from the airbox and try spraying it with electrical contact cleaner. (dont attempt to clean it with anything else!)

Thanks panason1c, they did confirm the fault code for the maf was showing but a new sensor has been fitted, hovever, the fault code not cleared. Once cleared the only fault code it brought back up was the one that lead them to the exhaust again.

Thanks again though, i'll try it if this doesn't work.

It does sound more likely to be a blocked cat then, just knock out the innards, a cat is not an mot test item on a diesel so dont worry about that and the car should be a bit more lively without it.
