Thanks panason1c, they did confirm the fault code for the maf was showing but a new sensor has been fitted, hovever, the fault code not cleared. Once cleared the only fault code it brought back up was the one that lead them to the exhaust again.

Thanks again though, i'll try it if this doesn't work.

It does sound more likely to be a blocked cat then, just knock out the innards, a cat is not an mot test item on a diesel so dont worry about that and the car should be a bit more lively without it.
