Sticking indicator!
-> 206 Problems

#1: Sticking indicator! Author: Russ, Location: Northampton PostPosted: Tue Jan 04, 2011 6:39 pm

Now my 206 is getting on a bit, entering its 12th year and still refuses to die!

However, one slight issue I have now is....

A sticking indicator!

Basically for some strange reason, I can be driving along quite happilly and the left indicator starts flashing without the stalk being pushed down. Now, it's only the left one, or nearside if you prefer. Now I can stop it by pushing the indicator stalk or pulling it! But it keeps on doing it and its very irritating and potentially confusing for other road users.

I'm hoping its the relay on its way out or is it a more serious problem?

And for those of you who know me..........I decided not to sell the 206!!

i think this may be a case of having to clean the stalk Smile
worth a try before replacing anything anyway

did it to my old one, i sprayed a few quick blasts of wd40 into the connections and left it to dry. worked a treat

with wear the metal shards drop from the indicator landing on the bottom where the connections are set. this activates the indicator without it being pressed.. apparently you can take the unit appart and clean out the metal fillings and get abit more time out of it.. alternatively a replacement is only 35 pounds and i got it fitted for 10 pound... and it is really annoying

+1 to that - you need to undo the steering column's plastic cover (2 torx screws on the underside) then unscrew the 2 torx screws holding on the indicator stalk.

Once off, take off teh flat cover part of hte 'box' attached to the indicator stalk - there's 2 small parallel curved 'rails' that get small bits of metal filings accumulating on them over time, bridging the 'rails' and causing the indicator to turn on by itself.

Brush the 'rails' to clean them, put the stalk back together and refit - job done.

Has happened to my 206 twice over the years and this fixed it both times.

Same happened to me. Took it apart and blew it out and scrapped the contactors with as flat bladed screw driver. It's worked fine ever since Smile
