#61: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Mar 09, 2010 8:43 am ---- At the moment mine has only a little of both, it's nippy, but more so in bends, gets taken out by the quicker cars on the straights, and the noise from a standard exhaust is a little sporty obviously, but nowhere near a proper one.

You wish
Sam - anything with a 0-60 of less than about 5.8 seconds tends to top me on acceleration.
It's when I get to higher speeds though that things start taking over.
50mph + will see most cars (especially turbos) with a 0-60 of around 6.5 seconds, which in theory are slower than me, start to gain on me and pass me at about 70ish
Mainly because although it's a 2.2 and is VERY strong and has a lot of potential, it's hugely detuned. They reduced the port sizes and such, which make N/A tuning very cost ineffective on this engine.
With the S/C it will be able to keep pace with most supercars, hopefully anyway. Will just see how my engine reacts to it.
#66: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: Quarmbo, Location: Bristol & LeicesterPosted: Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:36 am ---- Thanks for the explanation Seb. Can't physically wait until you've got it done! Might have to pay my Mum a visit at work and drive to yours! Get some pics of all the work being carried out etc etc if you can. Isn't it you and a mate doing it, or are you taking it to a garage?
#67: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:51 am ---- Hehe no worries mate any time. Will I see you at FCS?
I'm doing it with one of the lads from the VX club. He's got a throttle bodied VX, and now wishes he'd gone S/C from the start... N/A tuning on these cars just doesn't give you the rewards you hope for.

Afraid not. Didn't get round to getting a ticket. But fear not, I will see your car one day (as I know how much my approval means to you )
#69: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:11 am ---- Ah shame then, but will most likely catch each other at some sort of meet some time then
You're welcome to come by and see what the VX is like anytime though matey.

When your S/C is done, it will be interesting. S/C VX Vs Stage 2 LCR
#72: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:43 pm ---- Clean laminova cores and manifold:
Will sort the s/c unit when I can be bothered
#73: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: jimmyfloydreturns, Location: SittingbournePosted: Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:33 am ---- You need to explain what each part does when you take the pic!
#74: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Wed Mar 10, 2010 5:25 am ---- Oops!
Well basically this is a laminova core:
My inlet has 4 of them. They slot down the 4 holes in the manifold, and then the cap goes on top. Basically the manifold sits between the supercharger and the engine. The compressed air coming from the S/C is obviously warmer than the ambient air temperature due to the compressing itself.
The air is forced to pass over one of the four laminova cores, which are basically rods with radiation fins around the edges to transfer the heat from the air into the coolant.
In other words, that's how a charge cooler works
And that's why they need to be super clean!
#75: Re: Seb's VX Thread Author: jimmyfloydreturns, Location: SittingbournePosted: Wed Mar 10, 2010 7:57 am ---- Gotcha
