#1: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: pedro_keil, Location: Sittingbourne, KentPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 12:48 pm ---- Had a look about on the how to's and couldn't see one.
Has anyone given it a go or thought before?
I was thinking of going from light to dark as well as changing / painting the trims to black.
I've seen the 'A' pillars come in black but not the other bits so possibly I'd have to spray them ???
#2: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Luke, Location: LeedsPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 12:51 pm ---- You can get all pillars and trim in black. Id be surprised if they was not black roof lining too.
#3: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: pedro_keil, Location: Sittingbourne, KentPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 12:53 pm ---- Thats a result re: trims. Ta!
I'll prehaps give the stealers a call tomorrow and see what they have to say ??
I'd think that it should be easy enough to dye though.
#4: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 12:53 pm ---- could always get some clothes dye and rub it on with a sponge or something no idea if it would work, and youd have to watch not to get it too wet or it might drop off

Is it bonded to the roof?
I'd imagine dying it in situ would be a real pain in the ar$£ too, knowing me I'd come out dyed more than the liner LOL

i would imagine it's held on by spray adhesive or something but i really have no idea tbh
Can't really say it's something i'd try as i would come out dyed too haha

really? i thought the upper boot trim only came in grey? thats y im wrapping mine in black leatherette
Not in my RG. I'll see if I have a pic.
Did RG's come as 3drs? iirc I've only seen 5dr ones ??
I feel a trip to the breakers coming on
Good point.
If they made black trim for the RG I assume they will have done for others. Wait and see if anyone with a 3dr confirms.
#13: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:01 pm ---- I thought of it,because I want to move my anttena from front to the back, but I didn't done it yet because i know it's a pain in the a**..lol,anyway good luck.
#14: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: JDave, Location: Airdrie, ScotlandPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:03 pm ---- I took mine of too clean under them. Just 2 clips at the top and the bottom of them, have a look. Pretty easy.

That was another thought of mine too as my aerial rubs the spoiler so was looking to move it forward enough to clear or find a different aerial base and antenna. (dont want the stubby look if I can help it)
If it works out OK then i'll make sure I take pics and try and produce a "how to" for it.
#16: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Luke, Location: LeedsPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:07 pm ---- At the back it clips in under the rubber boot seal. If you peal it back slightly you'll see, it then goes under the C-pillar. Not sure on front as I haven't had that off.
#17: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Mike, Posted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:10 pm ---- The black trim came on RG's only and won't fit 3 door model from what I was told.
#18: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: pedro_keil, Location: Sittingbourne, KentPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:11 pm ---- Cheers for the info.
I think a play tomorrow should sort it. I'll let you know how I get on!! I can only go one of 2 ways LOL

Thats an ar$£. Thanks for that.

#20: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:39 pm ---- To remove the roof lining you'll need a heat gun & a scraper. And overally with a hood, it's mainly fibreglass & getting that on you is nasty... Trust me.

Oh! That is not sounding too good.
Yh I've worked with fibreglass before and its not the nicest stuff to play with
Dying it in situ is starting to sound like the plausable option!
Best I get some paper overalls and coverings for the interior
#22: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:56 pm ---- clingfilm the whole of the interior LOL
#23: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: drunknmunky, Location: Blackburn and CatterickPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:59 pm ---- why dont you try using some fabric spray they do a special kind of spray for fabrics to change the colour i think it would work well as i was thinking of doing this too
Haha! - Not far from what I have planned tbh - B&Q do a huge plastic dust sheet, I'll probably use a few of them and a couple of old sheets under them. should be a giggle sliding about on that lot!!

I was thinking of buying a big bottle of fabric dye and then using one of those spray water bottle thingy's. A couple of coats might work ???

And a good one too!! LOL
I am liking the cling film option though!!
I've wrapped a few mates cars at their weddings, an old gag but always a giggle!!

sounds like a plan but the stuff im on about makes it sound more like a spray paint kind of thing but for fabrics and its not too expensive, was just an idea but what you have planned sounds like it would work anyway

#29: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: drunknmunky, Location: Blackburn and CatterickPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:32 pm ---- I found it on ebay go have a look and search for fabric spray paint i think and it pops up

#30: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: pedro_keil, Location: Sittingbourne, KentPosted: Sun Jan 16, 2011 11:21 am ---- Had a butchers on fleabay today and there seems some good stuff on there so I'll probably give it a go some time soon.
Looks like the internal pillar trims will need painting to as I cant seem to find a 3dr 'C' pillar in black and would like them all to match.
Didnt get time to play with the interior as the weather was good so got the external work done
#31: Re: Roof liner removal - Anyone tried?? Author: Uz, Location: No Man's LandPosted: Sun Jan 16, 2011 11:43 am ---- there's a guide in my SW progress blog on how to completely retrim the interior by yourself as well as removal of the parts.
