ECU swap

Just a random idea I had. Is the pre-plex Gti 138 ecu programmed to the specific car (like volvo do) or can they be swapped out between cars?

Reason i ask is I wan to do a rolling road session in a couple of months and wanted to have a spare ecu at hand to do a quick swap between run between a remapped and standard one.

Just a thought.

Its coded to the BSI

does the pre plex have a BSI then? What's that? lol

Yeah, its where the fuse box is under the steering wheel. The bottom row of fuses are in the BSI [12 fuses]

It controls the electrics in the car, a bit like a motherboard in a PC

ah right - can the two ecus both be programmed to the BSI or does the BSI have to see the UCE right aswell?

Could you just coppy every thing over from one ECU to the other at first so they both work?

Excuse my ignorance please.

Not entirely sure on that, but if the ECU's have the exact same coding as each other then it might work. Not sure if its coded via serial number or something within the internal settings.

Yeah Ashik they do Smile

can you not just flash the ecu with standard map, RR it and then flash the "upgraded" map and then RR it? would be easier though

I could BUT...

I have one company doing the flashing and another doing the rolling road. The flashing company are mobile and the rolling road I don't have enough info on them to let them play with my ECU!!! I was just trying to find a way to get around it and swap the ECU over between runs to see the difference. Never mind, I'll just find a decent place with a rolling road who have good feedback for the remaps.

You could buy the software and hardware to retrieve the dump from the ECU.

Download your current standard ECU settings now, and save them.

Then get the remap, and download and save those ECU settings.

Then when you have the RR, upload them again.

Whatever ecu it is, Mr immobiliser need to be coded in Wink

You can swop the ecus around if you want BUT they need to be coded in OR unlocked first.

How much would that cost Lee? It probbly isn't worth me messing, I will just keep looking for someone with good feedback (not just on their own site) who can do the whole thing.

What's the point in having a remap done that's not perfect for your particular car?
