Ok well i have a suspected head gasket and i am going to get it confirmed tomorrow..

My question is how much would i get for it...

Clocks say 140,000 Miles (Engine change at 82000)
1999 'S' 1.4 LX
Suspect head gasket..
Ive put a whole new standard exhaust system on since having the car.

Im not thinking much i know just want to know what i should start asking for it..

How many miles has this engine done?

I'd say around £500 if that, if the bodywork is in good condition.

Probably worth getting it fixed as you know its good then.

Surely breaking it would be alot more beneficial money wise.

oni would totally agree i bet most people would want some parts of your car and then scrap the rest of the unwanted parts

I've got to disagree.

GTi parts are sought after, lower trim model parts are not in high demand.

Get the car fixed & you know the history of the car & its worth more to you than what its monetary value is.

I think putting aprice of either £350 or £400 ONO would be best.. LEts see if teh garage confirm the head gasket has gone

Stick it on Ebay with a reserve & be honest in the description.

Most likely a small trader or mechanic will buy it as a cheap run around Wink

YEa thats my plan.

With a buy now ono of 400 and a start at 100 and reseve of 300

Be a perfect little run around for a small garage once repaired.

100 quid start no reserve, no buy it now.

reserves put people off.

no point in a buy it now, if someone wants it bad enough they will message you an offer, plus people might get in a bidding war and go above 400.

and if you start it low it attracts alot more attention, and an item with 22 bids going into the last hour is going to look like much more of a good deal to one going in with no bids.

If it doesn't need skimming the head gasket could be done by you and then you would have a car which you know any problems with and will know this has been done. Better the devil you know sometimes. Wink

It's a TU lump, not skimming the head while it's off is just asking for the gasket to blow again in a very short space of time Wink

Sounds like you might get a few quid from a breakers yard or could end up paying to have it taken away if you don't fix the gasket.

Just for reference the shell is worth about £50 in scrap metal and that works out as a free collection at most scrap yards.
