Hey guys im looking at buying a black 2003 5 door 1.4 LX, i can get it for £1300 with the engine management light on, they said they have run diagnostics tests and there is a problem in the ECU, how much am i looking at getting this fixed?

No i havent been given any was just told they would have sold it for £2000 if the light werent on? x

all depends whats wrong with it! if its the ecu might cost £300- £800, if it was me i wouldnt be buying a car i didnt know what was wrong with it as its abit of a gamble and could end up costing £1000s

Hey guys the code on the engine management light diagnostics test is PO400 can anyone shed any light? How much will this cost and whats the problem?

That code relates to exhaust gas recirculation flow error. It could be the EGR that's knackered or just needs cleaning out.

Problems with your EGR. Either dodgey wiring or the solenoid/valve has gone.

At its worst how much can that set me back? The car has a buy it now £1300 tag on it with this problem. Ill give you link and you guys tell me honestly whether to bother or not?

If thats the only fault, it should be a cheap fix. Could try cleaning it, or get one from another car thats been broken.

Thats the problem with buying cars over ebay. Not all faults will be revealed by a fault code scanner.

It might be much easier and stress free to find a local car that you can visually inspect / test drive. etc. Or just take someone who "knows" about cars who can visually, audibly tell you if everything is in order
