Difference between auxiallary belt and cam belt

Does anyone know what the difference is as per title? Had my aux belt replaced in Sep 09 and a guy I spoke too today reckoned the aux belt and cam belt is the same thing

they are different belt

aux belt is for AC, alternator.

cam belt/ timing belt is to drive the engine Laughing

Cam belt does timing

Aux belt does alternator, a/c, pas

as above,the auxillary belt is driven off the engine aswell but it goes to the alternator,a/c and pas.

the sole purpose of the cam belt is for the timing,and it's crucial that it's spot on.thats why it's a bigger job to do.you have to set the inlet and ex cams to a certain position so that the valves open and close at the right time,last thing you want is the pistons bending a valve.

The cam belt also drives the water pump normally Smile
