I have 1.4 8v petrol 53 plate and fill it to the brim i do a lot of short journey but it makes no difference to my fuel economy if i take it on a run i'm not heavy footed. I put all the details in my ipod app (gas log) and it only gives me 25.4 mpg costing me 22p a mile i'm disgusted with it i've had the car 10 months now and at its best i've got 36 mpg 15p per mile but since having had new centre and back box exhaust in October its dropped to 25.4 mpg.
Would be grateful for any advice as to why this might be, have had the car plugged into a Snap-on computer and its showing no fault codes !
drives fine when its warm but erratic when cold !

18mpg normally
35mpg motorway
5.5mpg full chat (7.5mpg average recorded on track)

Laughing

Quick Top Tip - when going down hill, leave a car in gear but take you feet of the pedals, modern engines don't use much (if any) fuel when doing this.

I tried the above in my Focus. It normally takes me 1/2 tank to get to work (just shy of 170 miles), foot to the floor most of the way (it's that slow). Took my foot off the pedals when going down hill, and consumption reduced to quarter of a tank for the entire journey. Happy days

I'm currently using my tank up so I can work out what I'm getting at the moment. I put a whole tank in and I'm driving as softly as I can this what I do most days to and from work the max speed I travel at is 56mph it slow I know but its better fuel wise lol. The engine is a 1.4 8valve. I will report back with my finding when I have to fill up again.

1.4 206 GLX: 1.1 injectors, 1.6 inlet manifold, decat and aircon removed

How the hell do i get 30mpg whilst driving stupidly economically (changing at 2k revs and little feathering the throttle)?

5th gear in a 30, and i get 30mpg and dont rag it once? Any ideas?
