my mother was having problems with her brakes and asked me to have a look.the problem was the brake pedal was travelling a bit further than usual and it was a bit softish.
i inspected the brakes and the slave cylinder/wheel cylinder was slightly leaking at the back.also the friction material on the brake shoe decided to pack it's bags and feck off
all the parts arrive and i go out to my friends workshop which has a old fashioned pit which i hate and tools that can never do the job :wallbang:so i start to strip one side down and everything is going fine,i kept the offside shoes in place for reference and it worked a treat.
when i went to put the drum back on though it wouldn't go on......at firdst i thought it was the shoes being too far out and with them being new but they were as far in as they would go.i was well and truly stumped and for a bout 30 mins i had to give up and move on to the other side.
on this side though for whatever mental reason i struggled like hell to remove the springs,the shoes and pretty much everything i had to do.i kept bashing my knuckles and by this time my back was aching
i finally got the shoes off and then the fun began,there was no way the wheel cylinder was coming off.the 2 bolts securing it were well and truly fecked and the nut securing the brake pipe to it was also in the same condition.i tried for ages with all different means and they were not budging.tbh it was making them worse.i had to admit defeat with the wheel cylinder and decided that i would take it to my friend who owns a garage..his rates are dirt cheap and i pay him whenever.
so the new shoes go on that side and true to form it was a ain in the a**e and when i had finally completed the task i couldn't get the drum back on.same again,it was nothing to do with the shoes but in the end i managed to get it on and then managed with the other side.
i was raging,i started this at roughly 1.30pm and was finished at about 5pm,maybe a bit later
i hate cars and i hate my mums 106....especially the brakes
