so far it has head skimmed, gasket fitted etc, timing belt and water pump fitted, wheel baring and now the rear axel needs replacing.
why through good money after bad
the cars being traded in or scraped
would i buy another...
never sadly , always wanted one

Your not going to need to change you cambelt or water pump for another 70k, you've had the head gasket done etc. There's not much left mate.
Im in the same'ish frame of mind but having said that ive had mine for 3 or 4 years and im about to do the timing belt and water pump next week (normal wear and tear), im changing the comms 2000 unit AGAIN but this time a brand new one (common fault).
