How much would i need to spend on a decent re-map and how much more BHP would i get out of a standard 206 gti 137? Do you guys think it'll be worth it?

anywhere from £300 to £450, thats usually the going rate for a decent remap but you'll only get it to about 140 142bhp with just a remap

If that, as it is a 10 year old car now. It will unlikely still be putting out 137BHP.

^^ True, not really worth it then, any other suggestions for performance, got £400-£500 to spend

Get a good service, maybe a K&N pannel airfilter & stainless steel exhaust.

you can't get any performance improvement without a remap to finish off.....

i think the service part of this, was to try regain some of the power lost due to age

At work so cant watch the vid but how much gain from cams? And yeah it needs a good service, already got a ram air filter in it so sorted on that, sounds amazing btw

just to add to this thread. anyone know the power output after a 180 has been mapped with a janspeed catback and pannel airfilter ?

Cams will require a remap to run properly.

Kyle (gti180boy) has got cat cams and other mods set up on a rolling road and his is 197 bhp I think.

Nick - resize your sig please mate - it's screwing my monitor up Laughing

Re; remap

My '02 GTi 138 had a generic Angel Tuning remap and came out at 141bhp.
The actual power is not really what it's about - it's the drivability and performance that improved. It was more economical too, ironing-out flat spots and hesitations.
The remap cost £200 (group buy) - but that was without any major mods on my car.

For GTi-like performance a remap is a must Laughing

Chi's GTi came out at 125bhp pre-remap, and Kayleigh's GTi was about 131bhp - so you are unlikely to find a 138 with 138bhp Wink

kyle had 172bhp with just a k&n typhoon and janspeed cat back

rs tuning remap and cat cams 804s went to 195.5

thats quality (: my 180 has only done 61k and has full pug service history so should shouldn't have lost to much bhp over the years, im looking at the remap to level out flat spots, there's abit of hesitation when i put my foot down in some gears ( traction controle turned off ).

180 bhp if your lucky lol

As said by Ant though it's all about the drive,

It may only unlock a little more power but that power makes a s**t load of difference to the overall drive, so much so that after owning a mapped up 180 previously i'd completely forgotten that they actually need the mapping when reverting back, the difference that just the generic Angel tuning map with my Scorpion catback/ Simota CAI was immense I remember it made it in to a complete different car, no RR results but for me they wasn't needed because the difference was seriously noticeable.

I'm betting that the cammed and mapped 180 would absolutely slaughter another mapped up 180 without the cams.

remapped vs factory

I don't know if it's just me but did that recording 180/RC start accelerating before the final 'beep' if so it could have been better, and the vid should have been longer because it would have just kept pulling:)

But yeh that's the difference mapping makes:)

You'd need about double the torque to slaughter another 180.

I'd like to see a cam'd one vs another 180, i'd be suprised if there wasn't a significant difference in acceleration.. do they not work well with higher lifting cams then?

Cam's and map make a huge difference on most cars, for example on a Saxo yarrrrrs a Saxo, mine is around 130-40 bhp so i'm told just the usual breathing mods (uprated filter ~ Simota CAI, 421-decat back, denso irridium plugs)

Mapped up with cams they can produce up to 165bhp and they rip past breathered vts's easily:)

so......... if i just re-map a standard 206 gti i wont see any difference but cams and re-map i will?

no you will see a difference in driablity and a little more BHP and torque

When. First got her 167 bhp

Now. Set up on a rolling road at re performance 173 bhp.

Will try and find my print outs.

All done on the same rolling road.

Response and economy will both improve - the remap will (should) make the engine more efficient.
Power might not improve, but the delivery will. You will notice the difference Smile

The cams in Kyle's car work at higher revs than a normal 180, so in theory it is slower at lower revs. Therefore it will not 'slaughter' another 180 except in hi-rev acceleration and outright pace.
Kyle commented how quick my 180 was [granted, he had done all the servicing/cambelt/clutch etc on it lol]

Yeh but that's the thing, high rev acceleration, the situation we are talking about is a race.

So arguably he will always be in the power band won't he? unless he can't drive or is it not as simple as that? as to race you simply rev the tits of cars to get them to go like you already do to get a 180 to move lol, i'd agree with him possibly getting caught out, out of VVT?

The 180's seem to rev up nice and freely, and from a standing start surely he'd ace it, and in gear providing they are both racing from VVT again would be gone?

And then is that also not down to crap mapping? if it's not a generic map surely it would be mapped up to get the best out of everything?

Please enlighten me lol, it just seems strange going by experience with other cars Smile

(Please don't take offence to anything or the way I put it, i'm just curious:))

Do you understand how VVT works? It's not stepped like a VTEC system where the engine suddenly makes more power. It doesn't just suddenly come into play, all it does is constantly change the cam timing dependent on engine speed and load. So it's always working.

what kind of race are you talking about? if you are talking about motorway floorer that might be true.

but in reality, depends on the camshaft profile. some camshaft just don't have torque below 5000rpm; unless all you do is straight road. otherwise mid-range torque is still very important. you can't just look at peak power
