#1: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Update Pg2 Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:02 am ---- Hi all,
Got told when I introduced myself a long time ago I should do a project thread for my little bargin.
Well seing as my whole car situation has changed due to crashing my Astra I now have the 206 on the road.
So little list of how it was:
2002 GLX
1.4 8v
Half leather interior with suede middles (Not GTI)
Standard Stereo with CD changer
Auto lights and wipers
Horrible alloys
So bassicly you get the picture a standard black 206 glx lol.
I brought it for £120 as it needed a new clutch (Very silly girl was going to scrap it)
Spent £50 quid on clutch kit, some shim the bearing sits on and clutch cable.
Then I lent the car out for a couple of months to get some money together so I can do some repairs to the front end ect.
Since getting the car back I have had a few little odds and sods that got on my nerves so started doing some shopping and bargin hunting.
Managed to get hold of a nice JVC head unit for free with AUX ect and also managed to get a Fusion Powerplant 12" sub with 1000w reactor amp for free with full Gaue 0 wiring.
All of this has been chucked in the 206 and is up and running.
Got on the way a new pair of headlights as clips that hold them on is broken. (Another bargin at £25 delivered for the pair)
Now future plans for her....
1. Lower as it feels like a boat
2. Look for some much nicer wheels
3. Change zorst system
4. Invest money in decent sound system
5. Look into potential engine conversion.
The reason engine conversion is right at the bottom is I currently have a 1.8 16v clio in my garage waiting for a Williams engine.
Any thoughts let me know. I will get some pics of her when I get home so you can see what she looks like now

#4: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: arronmee1990, Location: Broughton AstleyPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:13 am ---- Eibach all the way!
#5: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:13 am ---- Thanks for the heads up. I was going to be buying some Spax. Is it really that bad? Before my last car I had a polo that was on the floor and loved every min of it. What other susspension would you suggest?
Thanks,
Jamie

#8: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:32 am ---- Haha ok then I will rethink. Still tempted at £60 for shocks and springs. I will be doing the tortion bar
#9: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: MutilateTheDead, Location: DerbyPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:17 am ---- I have g-max and the springs are nice
#10: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:33 am ---- Ive just bought FK coilovers and even though its early days the ride is great!
#11: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:25 pm ---- Coilovers are too much for me. Just looking to do the lot on a tight budget. I have just brought a full spax kit brand new for 70 quid. Gotta wait over a week untill i can fit it
Also think an engine mount may have gone too so need to get cracking on sorting it out.
Next on my list is a new bonnet. What are peoples views on a white bonnet?
#12: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: Southall, Location: Warwickshire, UKPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:52 pm ---- Good luck with this mate, looking forward to it lowered. I've also just bought a Spax lowering kit which is yet to be fitted, so let me know how they are
As for the white bonnet I'm not a fan, but I'm sure people will have other opinions!
#13: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:55 pm ---- Cheers. I will update. You fitting it all yourself? Also if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay?
Im not sure about the bonnet either was just an idea i had as it needs a new one and dont want the hasle of getting the colour matched. Altho i can get it sprayed pretty cheap lol
#14: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: Southall, Location: Warwickshire, UKPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 6:03 pm ---- No I have a mechanical mate who's going to help me out, which is handy, I hear that the torsion bar is a bit tricky to do correctly so put me off a bit. I paid £70 from the website also.
I'd get it sprayed then, but as your going for cheap as chips, depends whether you'd like it really!
#15: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:28 am ---- Small update incase anyone cares ...
Changed the headlights last night and managed to break one of the adjusters. Now looks like I need a new wing as well as the bonnet as its not matching up to the headlight like the otherside.
Heater control panel has been replaced as it was very temprimental with working for me. That now works but I have no light on the heater panel or clock so will investigate after work.
Car will be getting lowered on Sat, going to cover the tortionbar in penetration fluid thursday and friday nights to help with getting it all done. But I think other than that all is looking well.
#16: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: awirnok, Location: LithuaniaPosted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:43 am ---- Mine is same. I hope I will chrange bumpers to newer with sharp corners. Plus spoiler, new wheels and maybe tuning lamps. Additional arches from eBay look nice too.
What is Yours opinion about these external modifications?
#17: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:56 am ---- What bumpers are you talking about? Any modifications can look good or bad. Its just what you feel about them that matters.
The mods you talk about sound good to me. I havent seen the additional arches. Are they the GT arches? If so I personaly am not a fan of them
#18: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: awirnok, Location: LithuaniaPosted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 9:11 am ---- Rear bumper like that -
Front bumper -
Arches -
Yes, I think that there are arches of GT model.
#19: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 10:03 am ---- Front I think will look better. The rear doesnt look much different to what I have and like I said I am not a fan of the GT arches.
#20: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:17 am ---- Right update for you all had a little fun with tortion bar on sunday and managed to get the back end dropped. Finished at like 9.30 in the evening so found me a car park and got a couple of snaps. (Yes there are 2 people in the back but it does not budge when they get out :D)
Doing the fronts tonight so expect an update tomorrow with some pics of the whole lot lowered
#21: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: MrZiggerz, Location: Milton KeynesPosted: Mon Feb 21, 2011 10:19 am ---- How low can you goooo lol
#22: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Feb 23, 2011 5:27 am ---- Lol not low enough for me.
Another update, just brought a bonnet and phase 2 boot strip for 80 quid from a black 180.
Going to collect them on Sat morning but still need to lower the front as I am driving with some serious reverse rake
#23: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Author: hobnob48, Posted: Wed Mar 02, 2011 6:56 am ---- Still not done the fronts but on the plus side bonnet is now on along with Ph2 strip on the boot. Also gotta raise the back a bit due to it being on bump stops and MOT due very soon
#24: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Update Pg2 Author: JordGJ, Location: Leeds / West MidlandsPosted: Fri Mar 04, 2011 9:05 am ---- haha a**e dragging there... nice and low get the front down as well
#25: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Update Pg2 Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Fri Mar 18, 2011 8:16 am ---- Good height on the back but bloody hell the front needs doing badly
#26: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Update Pg2 Author: hobnob48, Posted: Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:31 am ---- Fronts have finally been done but it hasnt gone down very much I think she needs a little helping hand to get lower
Also got an ashley back box off ebay a while back for the grand total of £40 posted. This is also fitted.
Saw a thread on here where someone has got the little map reading light and it made me want one so got one off ebay for £13 and fitted that too.
Swapped my freebie JVC for an Alpine the other day much better on the sound.
Now lastly my best b.uy so far is the GTI rear bumper for the grand total of £10. But I need to go and collect it still.
Pictures to follow at around 5 ish as I will get some when I get home from work.
P.S thanks for the comments glad you like it so far.

Yeah I know but its finding one. I got the rear bumper for £10. Like the title says its a cheap project lol.
Dont want to spend too much as its not that special for me.
Definatly need to get the front down. May look into coilovers.
Oh and its not a river.... I like to class it as a puddle and the answer to that is I dont know thought it may look cool haha.

#34: Re: Hobnob48 Cheap as chips 206 tidy up project Update Pg2 Author: hobnob48, Posted: Fri Feb 24, 2012 3:08 am ---- I wish I could. Never got round to updating the thread but the 206 is dead :(. Headgasket failure cost me £200 to fix then it annoyed me so I decided to send her to the crushers and get a clio sport
