#1: Bumper Inserts.... Different for Sports Models? Author: SinfulDesignCom, Location: Ashford, Kent PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2011 8:12 pm

I need to get me a front and rear insert for GTi bumpers. Have found a place online - cleveland panels - who sell at good prices, but am I right in thinking that the rear bumper insert is the same for all?? They show different (and cheaper) insert for non-sport...

Not sure about the front either?? Any help appreciated...

i dont think thats true, i have found 3 different styles of bumper strips

1
cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE..._883wt_906
2
cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT..._500wt_922
3
cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT...385wt_1140

1 + 3 will fit the same bumper, but number 2 wont?

Op wants a insert for a bumper, does it matter the listing on ebay says protector...? how does that differ in the product?

I can gaurentee the rear is definately different. Yes they look identical but try fitting a non sports to a sports bumper and you will find out. Don't think it would work the other way round as well.

I can't speak for the front but I would imagine they would be different as well.

Makes it sound like its something that goes over the moulding to protect it. =/
and not the insert itself.

No there are only two (sports and non sports)

Number 2 you have linked is not for the rear, it's for the front and I'm guessing sport as well Wink

Honestly don't know, maybe it's from a cc or self done. It definately isn't standard on hatchbacks. Don't trust ebay ads as well from breakers they talk crap and have no idea what they are on about.

Trust me they are different, I had a non sports and a sports lined up and they looked identical but yet only the sports would fit. Yes you can bodge it on but they stick out at each end and looks stupid.

Talking about the rear, front is probably the same.

Correct, the fronts are different for non-sport and sports. It is about 2 or 3cm in length.

In this situation I have big question. Bumpers of my car is simpliest, like petrol model with small engines. Bu on the right side I see XS silver logo. So I decided to watch in Peugeot Backup soft with VIN number. Yes, logo is right - XS modification. I think that maybe front and rear were crashed, because right side is really fixed, rear wing differ from other side wing.

I have non-sport bumper mouldings on my sport bumper

Peugeot DocBackup won't work with a VIN search as it doesn't have the database to search, normally.

Wow - that is a lot of response. I hope this will help clear up future issues.

I think under the circumstances, it will be best to go for the sport as we are only talking an extra ten squids for the sport jobs. At least I have some comeback if they are a dodgy fit. I will order them up and do a trial fit before getting them sprayed and report back. I will also ask cleveland panels - they will obviously say they are different to sell the sport ones, but interested in their opinion.

Watch this space peoples - might take a week 'til delivered but I will certainly come back to update fitting etc

FYI - I also foudn this post on another forum about the fitting of them for those that said they were a p.i.t.a. There may be varied opinions about the difficulty fitting them, but given the latent stupidity of the potential breaker, the odds are on that those in question were fitting the wrong item for their model perhaps...? Anyway - post below regarding fittidge;

"You dont need to remove the whole bumper to get the strips off.

I used info from a couple of posts mainly; Remove the 3 screws just hidden by the bottom of the closed tailgate. Use a flat screwdriver ( a big one ) to gently lever one side of the tapered end from the main bumper. Because you are pulling it now from an angle the little clips mentioned above pop out pretty easy. If they do get stuck at all use a thin flat screwdriver to lift up the plastic " slot " and the peg slides out.

The front one is a little easier as there arent any screws holding it in at all "
