I uploaded that video months ago and the problem was solved under warranty which has since expired, and the problem is back now. High revs and idle on cold start up, as well as lots of white exhaust smoke until the engine warms up
To me this sounds like a misfire. But when the dealership sorted it they said they could not find a fault and an 'ecu update' sorted the problem until recently
Thanks

#4: Re: Is this a misfire? Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Fri Mar 04, 2011 5:42 pm ---- It never used to idle at over 1000 when cold, and it lasts for about 10 - 15 mins, when i got my car back from the dealers there was no white smoke or jumping/high revs at cold, so something has to be wrong again

as he said, its the automatic choke keeping the revs high, its normal on a cold engine. i admit that it revs up rather high when starting initially (maybe idle control?) but sitting above 1k like it is in the video is totally normal for about 15 mins till the engines warmed up lol.
also the white steam when cold is totally normal in cold weather, its condensation being vaporised.
i suspect it was gone when you got it back from the dealer because they had warmed it right up and gave it back to you hot?
out of interest what happens if you switch the engine off when warm and restart it, bet it doesnt do it then lol

if it didnt used to do this im guessing your auto choke wasnt working, and now it is. so actually it was probably broke before but now its working again lol its supposed to idle above 1k when cold

So what actually controls the auto choke. Is it something that can be changed and if it is, any idea where it is located on the car?
