Looks as if my front caliper on my gti is seized.
Anyone know how to release the piston, or should I just replace the caliper?

Many thanks
Ben

Depends on what bit is seized up.

If the piston is seized then replace the caliper, if its just the sliders then clean / lube them up.

Remove the brake pads and refit the caliper without the pads and the have someone push the brake pedal with enough force that the piston begins to move ............then, with foot OFF the brake pedal, lever the piston back into the caliper........keep repeating until the piston moves back and forth freely.

Try to avoid the piston popping out of the caliper, but if it does just clean up the caliper bore with 600 (or finer) wet and dry paper, refit and bleed the brakes.

Ok guys, I managed to free it up using the how to guide.
I was inspecting my calipers on my 2000 gti and strangely my calipers opened upwards?!?
The 13mm bolt was on the bottom instead of the top...
I'm wondering if the calipers have been swapped?

There are 13mm nuts top & bottom, so they could hinge either way.
