My gti is a killer on fuel but I do high milage so it will be. If I worked fairly local and didn't clock up the miles I would have a 180 as my next car without a doubt.
But petrol prices keep hiking up and i'm constantly watching my speedo at 70 while guys in fiestas and puntos blast past me on the motorway.

Its all about the B-road fun though Smile

Go for it man BUT work out a rough petrol costing for the year along with insurance, tax, servicing costs and a few of hundred for any small faults with it.

Let's face it, all bigger engined petrol cars will:
A. cost a bomb to tax
B. Be s**te on fuel economy - 30mpg is not good!

Unless you bought a brand new petrol engined car, then you will have to put up with those running costs. Just buy a nice German diesel and then let the car do the talking

As much as i loved my 180 i had to sell it! A gti180 will do 30mpg on a mixed run but around the town they are 24 mpg . I remember on the way to part exchange my car we go 38mpg on the motorway.

If you are not botherd about fuel costs and tax(240 per year) then go for it as ive owned both gti and the 180 and the 180 is in a different league

my insurence droped from around £700 to just over £300 when i went to the c2

they are far better cars that are insurence gp17 but i dont think you will go wrong with the 180

Its all about Smiles per gallon!!

The replies have completly gone off topic from the OP.

It depends on...

1) if you can live without a car between selling yours and buying A 180.

2) If you can afford to buy a 180 without selling yours.

What He Said

I don't think it's a good car for anyone doing high mileage each year. I only do c. 5k a year so it's fine while I'm at Uni, but it won't be afterwards I'm sure.

There was an awfully long thread on this a while ago, but budget £3k for a good one and I'm sure you'll be happy.

mines the same, had it for about a year now, i dont do alot of motorway driving and put the foot down quite a bit coming of roundabouts and slip roads

How much better is the handling round roundabouts compared to a 1.4 say?
