#1: Question about spraying, im confused Author: Razpulsedj, Location: Partying with the Info Shufflers PostPosted: Wed Mar 09, 2011 7:28 am

Right ive just been out and bought some proper paint for my car which was made up and i was told it wont need laquer on top as it has a gloss finish anyway so do i need to wet n dry it after its 3rd coat of the paint or not, i want the best finish as possible.

Is it better to wet the sandpaper or have it dry for keying before paint?

Thanks, just confused

Is it for inside or outside the car?

I'd probably lacquer it lightly anyway for abit of protection

If it's solid colour or high gloss then only give it a light de nibing after you have finished painting and it's fully dry but you will need a compound like g3 to bring the colour back up. If there is no dirt in the paint when you finished dont bother sanding and buffing it.

Surely laqeur gives it it's hard protection coat?

A lot of solid colours aren't lacquered, they just add something to the paint.

Thats why you can get something sprayed in a solid colour in a day Smile

Ahh right, so i dont need to add laquer once sprayeed because it already has some sort of it contained in the paint then

Don't wet sand paper as it will fall to bits. If you're using "wet or dry" paper, I always use it wet. reduces dust and helps the paper glide over the surface, and helps reduce clogging.

use the wet n dry paper wet mate. after your final spray use the wet n dry with a light water mist but you want something around 1800 grit or if you can 2000, for denibbing, then you need polish to get it perfect. from a coarse one moving up to a fine finishing polish.

hope this helps

I always use 2500 Meg's stuff, it's amazing! Thats how I got the finish in the guide that's mentioned on here lol..

As Nick says Ryan make sure it's fulled cured (Dryed) first before you try and wet and dry it, if you're baking the paint on then do that and let it cool then you may be able to sand tomorrow, if your letting it dry naturally give it a good 2-3 days before trying to rub it down - if you do it too soon your just going to cause yourself more work in the long run.

what i dont get is after painting my badge, i lightly sanded the last coat, and it looked like id removed all the shine and sparkles, its pearlesante paint. then i coated it in lacquer and it all comes back.?
but the top coat was all scratched up, even thou its super fine scratches, surly it should looked shiny but with scratches under the lacquer..
