#1: GTi 180 - Steering Problem Author: cr21, Location: AberdeenPosted: Thu Mar 24, 2011 8:25 am ---- Hey guys
Been having this problem for a few months now. When parking i hear a sort of clunking sound when turnin the steering wheel towards full lock, which happens in both directions. This happens when both the car is stationary or moving.
Then when im driving in a straight line, the car pulls to one side. But it doesn't always pull to the same side which im guessing has something to do with which way i turned full lock to last. Im guessing it has something to do with the steering and / or driveshafts but really am unsure.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

So will this be expensive to repair and also is it an easy enough task to carry out? Cause id like to avoid taking it to a garage if i can but the fact im not even sure what the top mount bearings are, probably means i wouldnt be able to do this!!!

tracking done? tyre pressure? tyre correctly mounted?
any play in the suspension component?
wheel bearing? or even rear axle?

the bearing itself is cheap, probably around 10 quid each.
but you will have to take off the front suspension in order to fit it.
