#199: Re: ushers track project lexan windows and door trimmed Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:31 am ---- little update, i got round to completing one doow set up
cut out all the inner door and put some self tapping screws in the bottom of the window, cut out quite a bit of weight probably 5 kg with window motor and runners, the door is slightly less rigid now haha
next was the door card i was going to use plastic that is used in greenhouses but proved too difficult to shape, so i opted for some 3.5mm ply got it really close then cut out for the handle
not 100% keen on the handle but its more functional atm, need to put a pull cord in and think i will use this one as a template and cut another one, next issue is what do do with them as i dont want to leave them plain black
#200: Re: ushers track project running again lexan windows Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:54 am ---- You should cut them out of thin ali sheet they look the part and may be lighter in the long run.

#205: Re: ushers track project running again lexan windows Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:32 am ---- little update pics after weekend
had the week off work so made the most of it, the mrs had some plans in the house frst so obviously that came first lol,
on with the car i got the passanger door cut down and the window secured in place, weighed the bits i have removed, amazed it came to 10kg plus for motors and metal removed, the origional windows weigh 11kg all together with the lexan weighing about 6kg so all in all a good saving of 15+ kg for lexan windows
next i cleared the back of the car and made a start on the lugs and rear door card area, cut out back seat mounts and seat belt mounts, i got to the stage of every little helps
tried to mount the radiator fan to the rad with a universal mount kit but turns out there only intended for one use as after removing the kit it wouldnt go tight again su cut some more out of the cowl and wired in a switch to the live and binned the relays
next is to finish the fugs mounts and ds rear door card area then tidy up the wiring finally start to put it back together

Had a good clean out of the car today and finished off cutting lugs and door inners next is to tackle the wiring
also the other day i trimmed the front radiator cowl some more as the ideas of using radiator mount kit didnt work
new total for weight removed is about 170kg with aprox 20 kg to go back in must say im impressed with what i have binned so far, not sure where else i can reduce weight, fibreglass or carbon bonnet maybe or hack at it with the angle grinder like everything else
