I can see the problem for sure.... not that I can explain it (yet)...
My guess is that the query for the latest post gets fired twice, one for the search and for the shoutbox and it just so happened that in the fraction of a second that the webserver rendered each part of the page - the results changed quite dramatically.
Or your browser hasn't got a clue. *shrug*
Same in all three browsers. IE8, Safari and Chrome
PS... Stu, if you look, after my post, there is one in between on the actually site... but thats not on scrolling thingy
(I do Computing and yet my technical terminology sucks )

Oh, And how do i turn signatures off, as this feature seems to have disappeared from the old site.
Hate signatures! Biggest way of clogging up a sites image when going through it!
I would like to know this too! i had a look but cant seem to do it
#84: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: VorTechS, Location: Gloucestershire, UKPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 6:04 am ---- The problem here is the definition of 'latest posts' (my original hypothesis was in fact wrong!).
It is in fact just a re-direct to 'View Posts since your last visit' and the problem is that your last visit is defined as a certain window of time. If you visit the site, and then leave it idle for a while (not sure on the exact time frame) then the server/site cookie will declare you AWOL, and your next visit will result in a new session, and therefore a new 'visit' to the site. Thus, this link will show you everything that has had posts between your visits, whereas the scrolling box will show the latest t 'xx' posts regardless.
I actually hate the 'View Posts Since Your Last Visit', as you can easily time out looking through pages and pages of stuff. I wish it wasn't so restrictive and was based on the last 72 hours, if the server deems you to have revisited within say 24 hours. That's just a tiny simple case of changing the sql (I'm guessing it's on an sql backend).

It's just the background layer I think. For some pages it works fine, otheres it doesn't. I'll get a picture next time I'm on to show what I mean.

You'd think so, but I guess it depends on where the 'last visit' is defined. I know there's an entry on the user table for it, but it could well actually be being taken initially from a session cookie if the site is cookie based.
