Ohhh and Turkmenistan shall be a road trip for me, myself and i as no one else is offering to come? I am pretty sure it could be turned into club 18-30 if we wanted to its not about the party its about the people at the party Laughing and if its anything like afghan it should be a nice place just gotta watch out for the bullets like i did when i was there

To be fair i went on an 18-30s once and after a couple of days i would have rather been in Afgan....Kos....never again.

Sneaky plan for the road trip...make sure one of the mechanic 'esc' guys on here turns up....would be a brucie bonus for all the 206 drivers..

Sounds like Kos was fun then, to be fair i would never go on an 18-30s as i dont really bother with holidays that much thats why i want to get on this road trip Very Happy

Mechanic guy would be me i just dont have the tools Laughing i studied it for 2 years at college and have only just got back into the swing of things really but hopefully by then i will also have some more knowledge so that should a problem arise i can fix it.....oh and maybe some tools too Rolling On The Floor Laughing

£2000 is a little excessive. Our 'Ring trip is for 6 days, maybe more if we feel like it, and for the 6 days it's about £500 per person (2 sharing a car, and that's overegged too!). Includes Fuel, Ferry Fares (£70 per car, NOT per person, so book an unsocial time and get over there cheaply), Laps, Hotel, Food/Beer. The only thing it doesn't allow for is souveniers.

Last year one of us spent no more than £400 and still had a great time. It can be as expensive as you want it to be. The unreliability thing I wouldn't worry about, it's something that can happen to any car if you've not maintained it enough. European cover isn't dear either (although I get mine with my bank, but they won't cover you on the 'Ring anyway).

There's so much to go into but it's been a long day.

£500 over 6 days? 5 nights b&b in hotels will swallow that. Plus ~1000 miles of fuel (£300) then food, beer etc etc. The £2k figure would contain the contingency for if/when something goes hideously wrong. To just do the trip £1000 looks like a go'er but personally i like to have enough to get me out of the sh*t. It's fine saying i have EU breakdown but how happy will you be if you get to callais, breakdown and they take you home.

Ape just clearly said that he did it for £500 and someone did it for £400

stop being negative nancy.

I think £1000 would be a very safe figure tbh then. Gives us abit more to play with for the journey

Before you go getting all excited check the ferry crossing prices. This trip would need booking well in advance to get anywhere near the kind of budget some of you guys seem to be hoping for. I don't want to be Mr pessimistic but it would be a shame if some people got their hopes up then had to bail out due to price. Personally i wouldn't tackle this with less than £2000 available. You never know whats going to happen, but a car breakdown is very likely! (no offence if your 206 is your only car)

Just a couple of points to clear up as well.....
Turkmenistan is just above Iran and Afganistan....not exactly a club 18-30's resort....
And Shaker...it says Nurbug.....not Nurburg.....hence the query....bloody Dutch..

As others have said, 2k is way overpriced. I can't remember what my total costs were when i went to FCS '10, but was certainly less than 1k. Believe it was roughly 700 UK Pounds.
Yes, i took a ferry and cut off most of europe, reducing fuel-costs, but the ferry wasn't cheap either. Around 250-300 punds IIRC.

BTW, i'm not the only one who can't read.. I'm danish, not dutch Wink

Coool! Well I think takin the ferry would be a very wise choice for us specially if people are wanting to go round the ring! Less chance of breakdown and less fuel! Lol

Where would you meet us shaker?

You've really not done any research into this have you? You clearly know more than those who've been so we'll leave you to it.

Well i'm not sure which ferries goes from the UK. I "cheated" and went with the one from Esbjerg (DK) to Harwich (UK). Therefore only had the app. 4 hours of driving through Denmark to get to the harbour.
On the other hand, i did about 800 miles of driving in the UK instead Laughing

Meeting place depends on the destination. If around the 'Ring, it'll probably be the easiest to meet at the destination, then when you're going home i can join in for a bit of roadtrip fun before turning around and going home myself.

Or, i could cut across and meet when you're entering Germany.. Not that much of a detour, and i could go straight home afterwards.. hmm...

Anyway, just be aware that the 'Ring might not be the most ideal destination atm.
Firstly, the future of the 'Ring is uncertain. Might even go so far that it'll close for a month, maybe even 2. Hopefully not any longer than that. Second, sure, it's good fun, but i regularly talk with people who's been coming there for several years now and they say it's changed.
When they went last year, there was a fight in the carpark over a parking spot :/ Aparently it's there's alot more of the people/style you call chavs Sad

Lol well it will depend on the majority of the vote on who wants to vist the ring, I mean I'm not bothered if we do or don't. I'd be going round in a 1.4 so wouldn't be too fun! Lol.

If your happy to sleep in a cheap hotel and eat crap for a few days, jog on with your £500. I'm saying if i were to do it (but i forgot opinions aren't always welcome here) then i would be making sure i had access to £2k. A grand of which would be an emergency pot. A bit like sensible 'grown ups' would have so they don't have to ruin a good trip by breaking down and getting towed home because they dont have the money to fix the car. But obviously you needed to have taken a risk and got away with it for your opinion to count and definately not thought through a few more scenarios than 'ah it will be alright...'

As for the 'negative comment', it's not negativity it's past experience of being stuck in a foreign country. luckily with enough cash available to get out (the Volcano incident)

Ok guys cmon. Its about the cars not the lifestyle that we are goin to live over there. Yes we may have to sleep in low budget hotels but hey its the experience in the cars we are after. I'm sorry if people don't agree with this but personally I think this.

Anyhowww I hope people are still interested Smile
