hi guys.I've had to change the gearbox on my car (99 1.4 glx engine tu3jp)as the previous owner had a saxo box on there which was knackered.
I bought this one...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200588711563&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123#ht_500wt_922

I put in a new clutch, but couldn't get the clutch cable back on after fitting the new box. so took it back off and fitted the old clutch fork and pivot arm, replaced clutch cable also,I managed to get the cable on there but its way too tight, there's absolutely no slack, even though I have the pedal height adjusted to the max.the pedal does move but nothing feels right.it doesn't go into gear well, no dodgy noises either, the gearbox appears to fit well but I'm worried the gearbox is the wrong one maybe with some small differences to the original. anyone have any ideas?

just tried out the car again. it seems when I start it up without touching the pedal the clutch is engaged,i can select any gear, when I press the pedal it disengages.and tries to pull away.

what have I done wrong when assembling this clutch and gearbox??

From what you have said about the cable not being easy to fit and you have swapped the clutch fork over, it would sound like this is where the problem is.

if the cable is mega tight it will pull on the fork making it disengage allowing you to get gears but is the fork ok in that box, is the clutch assembly suitable for that setup?? the new clutch and bearing might be too thin making the fork travel further and causing it operate the clutch when the cable is fitted or the cable is wa too short!!

strip it back down is what i would do
