#1: car lost power during a launch.. Author: bisphenol-a, Location: AntarcticaPosted: Wed Apr 27, 2011 8:21 pm ---- i dont have much clue as to know whether im having a slipping clutch or some clutch related problems or anything.
well to begin with i was at a upward sloping lane waiting to enter the main traffic road.. when i saw a space in the lane i gave it a moderate launch and when i released the clutch the rpm went up, the car went forward but in a quick instant the rpm dipped, the car gave a weird surge and lost power.
and then it picked up and off it went, all in a very quick 2+ secs. from the moment i let go the clutch, my accelerator was always depressed, never let my foot off the gas.
at first i thought, was it my clutch? but when i left the next stop light, it was all good.
anyone possibly have any clue? i never had issues launching my car the whole time, cept for today.

An easy way to check the clutch is park with your handbrake on, start the engine, select second gear and gently release the clutch (still with handbrake on). If your clutch is biting, then it should pull the rear ohe car towards the ground and kill the engine almost straight away.
I have known a clutch slip, and be so badly worn that the rivets have started to rip into the fly wheel and create what feels like it's biting. The telltale sign was the abruptness of the bite.
It is possible that it could be a fuel issue if one of the sensors is on it's way out. If clutch is OK might be worth seeing if there are any fault codes.
Are we talking about a GTi 138? Could do with putting vehicle details in the post, then you can get answers that relate to your vehicle. No point someone saying it's a blocked diesel filter if your driving a petrol.

Likely to be your clutch starting to slip.

after all, still on the first clutch since first constructed.
60000km's. think its about time huh.
will try out that test.
handbrake on. engage 2nd gear. slowly release clutch.
engine SHOULD stall immediately eh.
