hay guys need some info. im having slight problems with my "03" reg gti 180 engine. what it is when the engine is idling the engine is shaking and slightly hunting. like its slightly miss firing. also when driving it feels like the power dissapears for a second. no engine management light on comes on every now and then with anti pollution fault (typical 206 lol) but the fault happens when the light is off.

Some one help please.

It might be the control Idle Valve sensor - A bit of a guess. My old 306 XSI (Previous car) had problem, car when idling was shaky, also on a change down with gears say...from 3rd itno 2nd the car would cut out. Nothing would show up on the diagnostic either. Until by process of eliminantion, turned out to be the Idle Control Valve / Stepper Motor.

But it could be other factors: dirty fuel, clogged / dirty fuel line, poor injectors, or injector system i.e....the carb.

Mine has the shakes a bit when cold I have spent hundreds replacing all the sensors/filter/coilpack/tb. To find out a few months ago it was the realise bearing in the clutch.

My advise dont wast money like I did take it to a garage.

also i forgot to mention when i release the accelerator pedal it makes a burbleing noise from the exhaust like its over fueling and the fuel is burning in the exhaust. and if i change down gears harshly from high revs it backfires. injectors????

and qwert get your facts correct please.

If there is a faulty lamba sensor it could be fueling wrong.

i got lee to code read my lads 307.
cleared old faults , started car , fualt appeared.

same symtoms as yours, ours was the coilpack.
...but easier to diagnose once it was read.

new coilpack fitted and job was a good un.

Things you can do with out costing money

Clean the map sensor.
Clean the tb.
Remove clean spark plugs.
Clean electrical connectors and earthing points.

But like I said mine was the clutch relase Bering that had broke.
I spent a fortune trying to sort mine.

check your belts are not slack, as it sounds like a timing issue tbh

Did this get fixed?

Same here, I'd be interested to find out if you sorted. I have similar fault, changed Temp sensor (cheers for heads up on that Mattymj), that cured poor revving, but get the same drop/recover of rev's usually when changing gears or if I blip the throttle.
