#1: Antknee's "Project Cheryl" 1.4 HDi - Updated 13/11/2011 Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Sat Apr 30, 2011 12:01 pm ---- Thought i would do one of these so i can share how the cars came along to how it stands now and what my future plans are (also i'm bored)
So i got my first car on 29/10/2009 a few months after passing my driving test - 206 1.4 HDi LX which was completely standard and in pretty good nick with around 90,000 on the clock and i paid £1900 which on reflection seems a bit steep but i'm still happy as she hasn't really let me down on anything more than general wear and tear
When i got it:
Then i made that first mistake lots of people make and got myself some rear lexus lights:
Didn't take me long to realise i didn't like these and they were off again!
Not long after i decided to get painting so thought i would spray the bonnet grille/vent silver, that didn't last long either as the pain started to peel off and got swapped back to standard lol
Next up i got myself a colour coded bootstrip which later on i sprayed the badge black
Afterwards i removed the "Peugeot", "206" and "HD" badge (HD because the 'i' snapped off when it got caught in a wash mitt) and also got an exhaust tip cover to hide the dirty old thing poking out the back
Also got a clear 3rd brake light and fog light and later on a gti bumper
After that i didnt really do anything for a while due to the weather being pretty grim for a few months but when it got decent again i felt a bit more motivaed
So i bought myself some new alloys - Team Dynamics Tornados in black
Bought some black side repeaters, black mirror caps and painted the front badge black too:
Got a black fuel filler cap
Went on holiday to corfu and found this guy, so stuck him on the dash which i had painted a few months before
I later bought a sport bumper off harry along with some SP arches and a honeycomb grille off ebay then colour coded teh washer jets
Crystals came with a free spider inside them...
Put some 9 SMD LED sidelights in along with some Osram nightbreaker plus' which i'm pretty impressed with!
I found some cheap rear LED lights on ebay so i won the auction and got them cheap! They were the same as these:
When i put them on i wasn't sure about them so left them on for about 2 weeks to see if i could make my mind up. Then on 28/4/2011 went to the Trafford Centre meet and Tom said "Eyyy you have sperm lights" so yeah my mind was made up that i was going to change them!
So I cracked out the standard PH1 rears and some tint spray and got to it:
I'm really happy with them and the light output isn't massively reduced so all is well and they completely change the look of the rear!
While i was taking a picture of them i thought i would also take one of Steve, my back window screaming chicken:
2/5/2011
Put the car up on some ramps today so i could have a look at getting the cat off and came across this which reminded me i didn't have any exhaust paste, so off to halfords i go... get back and it's obviously too hot to do today so will be doing it tomorrow now
3/5/2011
Today i took off the catalytic converter and hollowed it out to give the car a DIY de-cat and it's worked great! Acceleration has improved along with the throttle response and that oh so lovely "ssssssssssssssssssss" of the turbo! Can't really take a picture of that so so use you imagination
Ok so for a while now I've had some gloss black side strips which i never got around to polishing up using Ste206's method I've only got one side on for now as more clips broke than i had lol
You probably can't tell too much from the picture but they do look better in the sunlight when it reflects off them
30/5/2011
Ok so last week i was driving down the road and the car filled with smoke.. not from the engine bay but from the handbrake area! When i lifted the handbrake lever up i could see sparks from down under the cover. So i jumped out and disconnected the battery. When i took the cover off i was pretty shocked to see that the whole of the plastic handbrake cable casing had melted off due to the heat
After a lot of people saying a similar thing i spent a few hours take apart all the earth points i could get to and scrubbing ell the components with emery paper. When i was doing this i noticed that the wires were stupidly thin and thought it would be a decent idea to run a new cable from the battery to an earth point close to where the problem was (but only had one length of wire to use) so i ran it to the passenger side sill under the carpet and it fixed the problem! It's not come back since and hopefully wont now.
But yeah i ended up having to get towed home before i could sort it out as whenever the battery was connected the handbrake cables were getting hot...
This week i fitted my half leather interior to get rid of the original cloth thing that was in there but covered with seat covers until i could get this.
I love it, its so much firmer and comfier, i think the old one was actually a bit broke!
Old:
New:
When i got the half leather seats where was a bit on the right of the driver seat but covered it up by using leather cleaner/restorer and then using a leather shoe scuff coverer, then repeated a few times, worked quite well and was stuff i had in the house already which is even better!
Also, when i was picking up the interior harrys mate said he liked this so thought i would but it on here too:
1/8/2011
Got back from the summer site meet yesterday and those that were there would have already seen these updates
First up i have been without front fog lights for a little while, i ordered these off ebay and am pretty happy with them! More so because they sent me 2 RHS ones instead of one for each side lol, so i contacted them and sent them back but they took a while to send me the right ones back to which they made no excuses and just gave me a 50% refund
Also i have added a bit of yellow to the front end:
And yes, the car needs a wash
More to come soon
2/8/2011
Just a small one for now! Got bored before so cracked out the steam cleaner and cleaned all the hard to reach places after giving the rest of the car a good going over and a proper waxing yesterday which took about 3 hours to do
Today i done the roof gutters, around the bootlid, around and under the rear lights and bits in the engine bay, was going to take some more pics but got carried away and forgot only managed to take some of the roof gutters which were filled with pine needles, moss and what can only be described as compost, so heres a before and after
Before (but after id wiped away all the compost):
After:
23/8/2011
Got the boost gauge in now so i can keep a eye on the turbo and maybe adjust the boost slightly
The easiest way to plumn it in was to but a Garrett "Quick Tap" which is basically a bolt with a hole down the middle that is fitted to a pipe:
20/10/2011
Not much with this update.. broke down on the motorway a couple of weeks ago when my tyre blew and i had no spare, right on top of the big motorway bridge that goes past Meadowhall in Sheffield on the M1, that was loads of fun!
Anyway heres the wheel!
Also, this week i got myselg a flip key! well happy with this as now i wont keep getting stabbed in the thigh when i have my keys in my pocket!
13/11/2011
Some of you might have already saw the thread but i got this off ebay for £50 with the boot strip, spoiler, light and loom (wiper too but thats gone now):
Anyway that's all for now! will be buying more soon im sure
So that's it so far! I still have more plans which include:
- Intercooler
- De-cat > Done
- Lowering
- Window tints
- Mask/tint crystals
- Buy some front fogs and mask or tint them > Done
- New interior > Done
- Respray some interior plastic gloss black > Not doing anymore
Thats all i can think of at the minute! All comments welcome

#10: Re: Antknee's "Project Cheryl" Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Sat Apr 30, 2011 12:48 pm ---- I like nice one, probably best to have a play when they get here and see where they would look best (admittedly that would be not on the car LOL)

cheers i wasnt sure at first but its definitely grown on me!

it did yeah it feels like it revs quicker and more freely now that the cat isnt restricting the exhaust gasses, the K&N panel filter would be helping too but its definitely an improvement!

First year was £1300, 2nd was £1100, both with quinn direct
just paid £750 this year with adrian flux, but decided to get the extras and pay £815 which includes personal injury cover, windscreen cover, legal cover and full european breakdown cover (roadside, home and european recovery) well happy with it this year

Few questions, how do you adjust boost on these 1.4hdi's?
Also is it possible to get an intercooler for these?

I believe the wastegate on the turbo is an external one so you can adjust it by moving a bolt but i havent done it yet, there's a pretty half decent guide on tdocuk.com
You can intercool it yeah! the engine is the same as the intercooled 1.6hdi 110bhp, the differences being the larger cylinders, the exhaust system and ofc the intercooler which is mounted next to the radiator as below
Depending on costs etc i will either be doing it that way or getting a universal fmic to fit in the bumper behind the grill, that would mean removing the fan and replacing it with a slim fan mounted on the back of the rad

I have a 2.0 HDI GLX and was told it wasn't a turbo...did they make turbo and non turbo 2l HDI's?

also lovin' the car so far =)
thanks next up will either be tints or lowering or the cooler
Yeah all hdi engines are turbod, the only diesel 206 without a turbo is the 1.9, with the 2.0 the turbo is at the back of the engine as opposed to at the front, so you cant see it

FMIC is a bit of a b***h to do really, since there isn't a kit made for them you've gotta route all the pipes your self. I'm just going down the route with an intercooler beside the radiator. with a decent cold air feed onto the intercooler to help with cooling.
